"Let’s Go To Golgotha": Time Travelling and Historical Memories

This is a story that interlinks science and history. This all started with the idea of promise and not wanting to disappoint the family. Which was the reason why the father felt like he should have the holiday no matter what the consequences are. In this story we see a man who is prepared to go anywhere as long as safety. In this essay I’ll be analyzing on the effects of time travelling and the maintenance of Historical memories based on this story.

This story was written by someone who thinks that time travelling can be feasible. We learn about a man called Simon Falk. He noticed a sign written “pan package tours offer you the remarkable! this is a chance to see the battle of marathon, the war of roses, first manned space flight, absolutely no personal risk. ” This was an advertisement by The Time-Travel Agency. Although most of the promises they were making are not true. For example going to see the war of roses, you may die as people kill each other. We also learn that later on in the story that if you get in trouble the travel agency was not going to help you. This just shows that they were now in the future a place where advertisements are propaganda that says anything to attract customers.

Scientists have proposed ingenious mechanisms for traversing time that are theoretically possible. Time travel is still theoretical which means this is in the future. Personally nowadays science fiction is now one of the norm this and media really helps us to understand tone of the dangers and this we need to look at when we are handling some mind-blowing technologies. Time travel, the concept that was illustrated as holiday in this short story. We can see how people were being taught preciously how to act, how to think (simplicity), how to dress and they were even being injected with Hebrews and olden language.

All these things if they are not followed or obeyed, they may lead to serious change of the whole timeline. Hypothetically speaking, a man leaves let’s say one small thing in the past, let’s say a phone that can change the whole era of technology. Or let’s say one of the educated tourists is left behind in the past, he may start teaching people about a lot of things that are norm to us to them and maybe our generation won’t be born this way. And I wouldn’t have had this assignment to write. This is how The Time-Travel Agency was maintaining or protecting the memories of the past.

I would like to believe that this is the future we can tell a lot by the way people celebrate holidays by time travelling to major historical event. Comparing with our day and age we are aware of the invention of such are far from being feasible. Directors and authors are just trying to stretch our heard as engineers to think of the impossible. We see it in movies the story books we read and the idea of time travel to most is still a myth. We also learn that the option to have a proper holiday with the family were very limited. There was nothing interesting to happen on the ground and the next safe thing was a boat ride.

“Earth was a solid block of brick and concrete flourishing with Banyan buildings, and ocean cruises made his children sick. ” This image of the future seemed to be boring. There was nothing interesting to happen on the ground and the next safe thing was a boat ride. From this analogy alone I can guess that water and land pollution was at its climax. This tells us that the future is boring and people would rather go back to the past and play out roles played by other historical figures. Similarly, why would people want to go back in time for holiday instead of travelling around the world?

The memory part of the aspect. We see the married couple, Simon and Mandy Falks, arguing on which holiday or time line to go visit. They were looking for a time in history that will help their children appreciate their own lives more. Sparta, a place where children were placed in military at a young age of eight. Living that time as a child was very tough, as you were meant to steal for you to survive according to the reading pack. Getting caught whilst was a rule that was serious then. This way the children will learn how to appreciate parents who provide for them. Rome, Pompeii were also part of the suggestions. Parents wanted to visit an interesting part of history that can be educational as well.

The family decided to go to this period of time because if we look carefully into the bible, we’ll discover that the life of Christ was the competition or rather fulfillment of the professes. Jesus himself may have preached, healed people, resurrected people from the dead and all, but this was the most important and relevant time of his whole career or ministry. The crucifixion of Christ is so important to the faith of Christian as this gives hope, to be reunited with the Father, Yahweh, in heaven to all who believe in Him. Furthermore, before Christ died for the forgiveness of sins, if I may call it, only one nation had this promise of being with Yahweh after death of the flesh. However when Jesus died he died for every nation, as long as you follow him you’ll be saved.

I had to go back to the bible to explain everything. Now coming back to our story, we learn that the family had to know how to behave and act. Look at it from my point of view these tourists we supposed to take part in the crucifixion of Christ as they were there. “We have killed the Son of God…”. They later on discovered that they are the ones who are killing the son of God. At the end the tourists discovered that they were the only ones taking part of the crucifixion, without the locals. The memory of the story of the crucifixion of Christ was now proven wrong. Locals were praying in their houses their houses, as Jesus was being crucified. At this moment Simon and Mandy’s memory of the crucifixion was a lie. Its quiet interesting how the agencies were now the ones writing the history, as it seemed. This was now to look like a play written for the tourists to act. Similarly the crowd was full of a lot of people from the future and not everyone noticed this. They were trying to be careful of the locals. They were just doing what they were told by their guides to do. Little did the tourists knew they were being careful of themselves? Its fare to believe that the tourists behaved this way as there were many agencies with the same training. When James cried out first for Barabbas to be realised. This was clear that all the crowd was full of people from the future as the little boy did it first. The crowd then became noisy because they were all too afraid of each other. Furthermore on this the tourists didn’t even think about the other agencies. “The tour needs to stay together. A roman soldier or two tagging along behind civilians will not look right”. This may seem like it was random when one of the civilians asked to be a soldier. I would like to believe that one could become a soldier, after all this is history all the actions of everyone is known. Yes some roles could be a little more demanding than being a local, but what if the Time-Travel Agency only had rights to locals only. Similarly since by this time there were many time-travelling agencies. This all goes back to my point that this was all now simply just a script written by different agencies. “We’ve crucified the Son of God, and we’re going to do it next tour, and the next and the next…”. “For ever and ever without end, amen”.

Imagine a world where you die the same way over and over again but you are being killed with different people. This is when Harry had realised that they have crucified the Son of God. Is life not like this where we are trapped in one memory that’s just recycling itself over and over? After a close analysis it is safe to conclude that we may be living in a world scripted by people from the future. Furthermore from what people discovered the story about the crucifixion, us as humans, we may not know our history well. The good thing about time travelling they managed to maintain the memory of historical events.
