Mathematics Creates Beauty Through Thinking
Mathematics makes people think that’s why it creates beauty. Thinking is an act of using mind to get concepts, ideas, beliefs, memories about something. Through thinking they believe in themselves of something that they can do to produce beauty. According to Proclus “there is beauty in everything that has a number.” Everything here in the world is composed of numbers and it is always makes people to think. And yes that is right! Dealing with the numbers creates beauty based on people perceptions.
Thinking about the ways on how people could get satisfaction to one’s tasks drives them crazy. It is normal to use mind just to think and be crazy as long as the power of it will produce beauty and perfection. Based on the observations in the surroundings, presence of nature, infrastructures, arts, technology and also human are examples of beautiful. People always uses their thinking strategies to create beauties based on colors, shapes, measurements, smell, textures and design for a thing.
Early people used also their mind to think and creates beauty. To be specific, early Egyptians used calculations to build the famous pyramids of Giza. It is well-known for its fantastic view, accurateness and attractive shape.
In the modern world, thinking and dealing with the numbers are too complicated. Too many complex thing about mathematics are just appearing from the studies of the experts or the mathematicians. Personally, based on my own experience I encounter difficulties in dealing with it but I do prefer applying it on my task which is to create beauty in my own special way. Just an example, when I was in high school level I have created a mini badminton court as part of my performance task in the subject mathematics, I have done it through thinking and calculating everything just to make it almost accurate, almost perfect. I was so proud of myself that time and I just realized that numbers or mathematics is very helpful in thinking what ways to create something beautiful.
Beauty in nature, infrastructures, arts, technology and even in the human body includes thinking of mathematical ways to create beauty. In nature, it is given that nature is perfect and beautiful for it is a project made by God with His powerful hand. But, what do really people consider a thing in nature beautiful? Answers may differ based on the impact of it to human’s visualization through colors, shapes, structure, texture, and smell and etc. Experts do really a hard time to think about something in the nature that is beautiful in a mathematical way. For example is the snowflakes, snowflakes is famous for its symmetrical sides that makes it attractive. A sunflower in a garden that is considered as the brightest flower for its shape and color that gives a bright feeling to the people. It is also symmetrical based on the Fibonacci sequence 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55 and so on through the sunflower petals. And also a Nautilus shell, it is an attractive shell because of its spiral shape. Just like sunflowers, it has also the presence of Fibonacci sequence.
Nature is beautiful through numbers. “Numbers” gives significant concepts and ideas about nature while “beauty” refers to the figures that can be found in nature. (Stewart 2017)In terms of architectural ideas, mathematics plays a very important role in thinking of the best way in terms of beautification of a thing specially the infrastructures. It is also served as a beauty specialist. The use of measurements to make a project clearer and precise would not be effective without thinking of numbers. Ideas, concepts, designs, structures, figures of an architectural thing are being manipulated by math. People have a mindset that “perfect is beautiful, perfect is attractive,” In math it is beautiful if thinking is used to make accuracy.” For example, an architect proposes an architectural design to a head of a company. The power of thinking of accurateness with the aid of mathematics will help to defend the proposal and let it accepted by the client.
Next is in the field of arts, well-known artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Pablo Picasso and etc. are good thinkers. They provide a very attractive and beautiful artworks that is famous before up until today. They used their mind to figure out and calculate everything for their art project. For example is the famous painting “Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci. Nowadays, people getting confused if the lady in the painting is smiling or not. It is because of the magical power that mathematics help him to think of it. They are also consider it as an example of perfection for its symmetrical sides of the woman’s face wherein da Vinci used calculations to make it simple but perfect to make the audience get attracted. Another example is the famous painting “the creation” by Michelangelo that can be found at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, Italy. For me, I believe that Michelangelo figured out first before starting the artwork and used mathematical ways just to make it attractive and accurate. The use of technology also gains beauty from thinking in a mathematical way. Technology uses science to produce a useful thing such as tools, equipments, gadgets and etc. Early people for example is the Pre-historic people, they create technology and they assure that it will be helpful for them in their everyday living. They come up with a good technology through the use of mathematics such as counting and measurements. People nowadays used to think about technology as virtual maids that makes or help their lives easier than before way of living. Experts invented this kind of technology with the aid of mathematics they calculate and analyze things to make it accurate and reliable to use. For example is the use of smartphones in order to communicate. People before uses birds or the sender will just travel a lot to meet the receiver in order to communicate with each other. But through the modern technology the communication becomes easy and also it saves time, money and effort. With this, mathematics proved that it is very helpful in creating life beauty and easier. "Mathematics creates beauty in human anatomy.” Yes it's true. For example is facial surgery. Most of this kind of surgery is in demand in the country of South Korea wherein people there are conscious on their physical appearance. To come up with a good result, specialists takes a hard time just to calculate everything so that it will be accurate whenever the operation get started. They also think and plan for the possible outcomes and as much as possible a beautiful result.
To sum it up, Mathematics creates beauty through thinking. It is very important because it helps to come up with the ways in surviving life. Numbers and Beauty are interconnected with each other because numbers are the key to create beauty. Moreover, Accuracy is also important and emphasized in creating beauty through matg because it leads into a certain way to perfection.
