Metaphor: “a Life as a Roller Coaster”

One of the most common metaphors we hear or often use is that “a life is a roller coaster”. Life is a rollercoaster because it continues to go up and down, very rarely do people go through it alone, and sometimes one must wait a while for the fun part.

First, life is a roller coaster because both contain parts that are very enjoyable, and also parts that are scary and full of anticipation. For example, many of life’s experiences are filled with joy. Compared with a large drop on a roller coaster, it is very exciting and one of the best parts of the coaster. Life can also be very fun and have awesome parts that we look forward to. In addition, life also can create fear in the hearts of human beings. Roller coasters contain parts that can cause fear, which causes people to sometimes be too scared to enjoy the ride. Some of life's greatest hardships can be overcome by perseverance, and people get through this by knowing that the ride is worth it. Thus, showing how life is a roller coaster with both ups and downs.

Second, life is a roller coaster because there are always friends and random people that go through it with you. For instance, many people attend amusement parks with friends with the intention of enjoying the thrills of roller coasters together. Life is meant to be lived with companions that can enjoy the good times with you. Without friends, both life and roller coasters would not be as enjoyable Furthermore, there are also scary parts in both life and roller coasters. These same companions are meant to help during the scary times. Much of the anticipation put in front of us can be taken away from the comfort of friends and family. Therefore, life is a roller coaster that people get to enjoy with the important friends in their life.

Most people agree that life is a roller coaster. Like a roller coaster, life consists of ups and downs; some parts are fun, and some parts can be scary. In addition, both life and roller coasters are more enjoyable with friends and family. The wait time that occurs in both life and roller coasters can sometimes be annoying, but it is worth the wait. In conclusion, all of these similarities lead to the final result that life is a roller coaster.

Another metaphor that can be found or heard anywhere from politicians, and businessmen to magazines, books, articles, and common people is that “time is money”. From my point of view, I think of time as a valuable and irreplaceable thing. I sometimes tend to say that “I am running out of time” or “I am late,” both in singled-out days and in life. I guess that I feel like I don’t have enough time to do everything that I want to do in life, but I’ve never really thought of how that expression is related to money. I also say that “my time has been wasted” or that a certain situation is “not worth my time.” For example, my female friend invited me to go out for coffee with her female friend, but I didn’t go because they were not worthy of my time as I had more important things to do. However, I often compare money to time but never thought of money by itself. In fact, I thought of it as a valuable asset that’s not necessarily money. It's like a family, something that’s important, and what you have is what you get.
