Mocha Uson And Federalism In Philippines

Mocha Uson, a former member of Mocha Girls and now an assistant secretary of the Presidential Communications Operation Office, meddles with the topic regarding Federalism and citizens were unimpressed, including mine.

Mocha Uson, together with Drew Olivar, made an awareness video about Federalism by singing and dancing a lewd jingle about the said issue. This action was inappropriate for Uson is a government official and both of them are a public personality. You can say that they just did that video to promote federalism and the proposed constitution to the people but for something that is serious to Filipinos, they shouldn't have done a malicious video that contains nothing but a matured content. Also, Federalism is a topic that should be taken seriously and not as a joke. It is so ironic that she is against fake news but the content of her video is much worse than fake news.

Mocha Uson defended her actions and snapped back by questioning the public comment about her video by saying, ”Anong Masama dun?” and continued to make herself and Drew Olivar innocent about the controversy by making it looks like the critics are the one who made the malice on their video and that all of the things they said about Federalism, public was only able to recognize their mistake.

First of all, they are already a grown-up person who can differentiate something that is malicious or not. Using the word “pepedederalismo” and showcasing to the whole nation that you are touching the two body parts of the human that are considered as private and not for the whole world to talk about, is something done by those people who are desperate to be known. Tell me, who is in the right mind to do such a thing? And take note, they even have the confidence to post it in the social media. Filipinos are talking about the video not because they remember your ideas and opinions, but that is because of your inappropriate actions that caught the public's eye.

Mocha Uson is a public figure specifically the Communications Assistant Secretary. She is someone who should be highly respected. Federalism is a serious discourse and should not be taken downgraded to the lowest form. By that move, people would tend to take Federalism only as a joke and never a serious one because they have seen a public piece just jokingly talk about the topic.

According to Senator Tito Sotto, they should practice respect, especially that the topic is a serious one. They should have done a better way to raise awareness about Federalism and shouldn’t have done it in an indecent way that can affect the perspective of the Filipinos towards the issue.

I think that the both of them should have thought of a better way to promote their ideas towards Federalism instead of doing that dance. I think right from the start, they have known that it will cause a big blow that could help their popularity rate. But I guess luck is not on their side.

Federalism is a serious topic to talk about especially to us Filipinos. It is so disrespectful for them to discuss the topic that way by using a so-called dance craze. There a lot more way besides doing that video to make our fellow Filipinos aware of our ideas towards Federalism.
