Modular Learning: a Review of Literature

The review of related literature was conducted for the objective of the study. The review of related literature will address the learners' perspectives on modules as a learning delivery modality and its indicators for the aim of the study.

On a global scale, the United States is the leading country where we have seen an increase in instances and the number of patients in hospitals, which causes students to be afraid of going to school. As a result, according to an Uzbek study, modular learning technologies are beneficial to students' credit module system the amount of time spent learning Mastering important modules improves students' self-study learning during the educational process and makes the educational system more flexible. COVID-19 may worsen children's pre-existing vulnerabilities to violence, therefore the approach should place a significant emphasis on child protection. Women and girls, learners with impairments, and those who have already experienced socioeconomic exclusion are all affected by psychosocial distress.

With educational institutions adopting distance learning as a common distribution method throughout the pandemic, the INEE emphasizes the importance of providing non-tech (e.g., printed worksheets distributed to learners), low-tech (e.g., text-based instructions), and high-tech (e.g., video conferencing) learners with options. The Philippine education system is now transitioning to the new blended learning, according to De La Salle University, with public schools nationwide expected to start classes on October 5, 2020.

A modular system is a learning resource that is separated into sections. The sections of the modules are arranged in a way that they complement one another. Each module teaches knowledge and abilities that will help you succeed in the field proficiency. According to Mallaherang et al., education is crucial for enhancing human capital quality and assuring national growth sustainability. According to Rahmawati et al., different students' characteristics should be recognized during the learning process so that these variances can be accommodated through the use of appropriate media and learning strategies.

According to Lardizabal, a module is a collection of learning tasks that learners must complete, as described in Vergara's study. It can be utilized as part of a course, as a complete course, or as a curriculum design, according to Vergara. Balderas is a Spanish word that means 'cliffs'. A module is a short-segment program that is interwoven with other types of education to cover a restricted number of specialized units rather than a complete course. Modules, programmed instruction, self-learning kits and mail courses, and mastery learning approaches were all mentioned in the self-paced teaching system. Modules are printed training materials that students can study on their own time.

In conclusion, the government decided to close schools and universities due to the outbreak of the pandemic for the safety of students and staff. Furthermore, school closures had an impact on students' learning styles, forcing many to abandon face-to-face classes in favor of online and self-paced modular learning. Clearly, modular independent learning is a style in which students work at their own speed with no involvement from the instructor.
