Mother Teresa as a Leader: Inspirational Role Model for Modern Times

Mother Teresa's leadership style was characterized by her empathy, humility, and tireless work ethic. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, a religious congregation dedicated to serving "the poorest of the poor." Despite facing numerous challenges and setbacks, including criticism from some who accused her of proselytizing and failing to address the root causes of poverty, Mother Teresa remained steadfast in her commitment to her mission. She continued to expand the reach of her organization, establishing new missions across the world, and inspiring countless individuals to join her in her work. To analyze Mother Teresa as a leader, this essay would shed light on her unique leadership style and her legacy as a humanitarian and servant leader.

Mother Teresa was born on August 27, 1910, in the beautiful place of Shkup, Albania which is now called Skopje. She lived with her mother, and father plus 2 siblings, Mother Teresa was the last child born out of all her siblings. She had an older sister named Aga and an older brother named Lazar, she had a nice comfortable childhood.

Mother Teresa grew up in a Roman Catholic and was very devoted to her religion ever since she was a little girl. When Mother Teresa was nine years old she went through the traumatic experience of someone murdering her father on August 2, 1919. It was a very tough time for, but she came out on top of that and instead of moving away from her religion she embellished an became even stronger person moving even closer to her worship of faith.

As Mother Teresa grew in her faith, when she turned 18 she became a sister for the Sisters of Loreto. She became a missionary to India, but before she could travel to India she needed to learn English. So she spent a year in Ireland learning to speak English at Loretto Abbey. About a year later she flew back to India an Mother Teresa started her work as a missionary worker at Darjeeling, India. Throughout the years Mother Teresa was able to learn the local language Bengali, which she, later on, taught at the local school in eastern Calcutta called Loreto Abbey, Rathfarnham and then became the headmistress.

When Mother Teresa was 36 she took the vows as a nun and chose the name, Teresa. The vows are vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience which are from the evangelical counsels of Jesus Christ. After several years she was able to become the headmistress at a school in eastern Calcutta.

Mother Teresa was a fantastic leader, an before I tell you how she was a great leader you need to know the type of leader she was. The article “A True Servant Leader: Mother Teresa “ says “ the leader has a need/desire to serve others so that they can develop themselves and therefore perform to meet organizational needs. ” To me it seems like Mother Teresa lives by that definition. Since she always puts others first before her needs, no matter what situation she seems to be in.

Mother Teresa was a kind and generous person, even though she wasn't the richest she spent her time energy an love to help the people in need of her help. Mother Teresa was able to create missionaries, and now there are over 4,000 missionaries sisters of charity throughout the world. Mother Teresa was very selfless she always tried to find a way to help people whether they were sick, homeless, and etc. Even though she could have gotten sick helping people she did it anyways. And instead of cracking under pressure when she saw what people went through, it motivated her to be the best person she can be which is helping others through God’s word and being a person God can use the spread the love, joy, positivity, selflessness, and etc.

In theory, Mother Teresa is an amazing person. Even though she had challenges in life like losing her Father it made her even stronger in her faith. And instead of putting herself before others, she puts others before her by using God to help spread his word and show them God’s love, capability, selflessness, generosity, and more through her. Mother Teresa is a blessing in disguise. All in all, Mother Teresa is a selfless woman who worked hard to help others in need.
