My Arguments For The Idea To Grant Citizenship For Illegal Immigrants

The United States of America was originally founded by immigrants in Jamestown Virginia 1607. Immigration has become a major topic in today’s politics while considering how to deal with illegal immigrants. I personally believe that illegal immigrants should be granted citizenship, however they shouldn’t be granted citizenship right away. I believe they should have a grace period in which they get a job and pay taxes and then if they don’t break any laws then they can have a chance to be granted citizenship.

To be a United States citizen means a lot to in which freedoms you can endure, and with this you must use these freedoms wisely. I do believe that we should grant immigrants citizenship after we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. However, while some immigrants look for a better life other maybe be looking to expand their drug trade and other illegal activities. For example, in 2016 “Sarah Root… she was in her SUV was rear-ended by Eswin Mejia, an illegal alien from Honduras, who was street racing”. I understand that this does not represent all immigrants for my mom is an immigrant. Therefore, I believe there should be a grace period and once that period expires they either get citizenship or they get deported. During this grace period the immigrants should be treated like citizens but have no voting ability for as they are here illegally. While in this grace period they get the chance to show that they are here to get a fresh start in a free country. Once past this grace period they qualify for citizenship which will be granted to them if they are able to pass the citizenship test. I only feel it is fair for them to have to take the test because the legal immigrants must pass the test in order to become citizens.

When Donald Trump was campaigning for office one of the major things that he said he would do is build a wall between Mexico and the United States. This allowed him to capture many votes along his journey to the presidency. When president trump passed the executive order that the United States was now going to have a “zero tolerance policy, under which everyone crossing the border illegally, even those who present themselves to officials and say they are seeking asylum, is subject to criminal prosecution, ” meaning you if you do something illegal and get caught you would consequences. When President Trump first passed this everyone got in a big uproar and began saying we should have open borders. In theory open borders around the world would be ideal just like how communism works well in theory but there is a reason that it has yet to succeed.

I agree with President Trump and having a zero-tolerance policy on our borders. For example, say you work hard, and you finally found the right car for you and right as you are about to buy it the dealership turns around and gives it to someone else because they could make more money off of that person. That’s how the job market is impacted when it comes to immigration. When you go to get a job and you know how much your pay should be but then an Immigrant comes along and is willing to take the job for a little less the company will choose the immigrant. Now my mom is an immigrant, so I feel that immigrants should be aloud and when they are here legally they shouldn’t be viewed as immigrants but as fellow members of this great nation and that’s where I think Immigration policy should head. President Trump said that he would be willing to take the heat for a policy that goes against his immigration policy which brought him into office. Trump wants to “a more far-reaching solution to the status of the 11 million undocumented immigrants already living and working in the United States, ” these allowing millions of immigrants’ citizenship. He wants this to be a short-term plan and allowing him to make a down payment on the wall for the southern border.

I agree with the idea of allowing the immigrants who are already here and working to become citizens, and I also agree that our nations borders need to be secure to prevent job loss of Americans. While immigration is good when it comes to making our country more diverse in every way if we just go and make every illegal immigrant an automatic United States citizen then we are essentially opening ourselves up to utter chaos. The United States would not be ready for the amount of people that would begin coming into our country. I truly believe this because we will have more people than we have jobs for. We will have to then increase our government spending to help unemployed people and all of this just ends up leading to more and more debt for the United States.
