My Intent To Enter The Field Of Teaching

I always had a passion to make a difference in the life of people and leave a positive input in them, which was one of the main reasons I decided to enter the field of teaching. I am currently studying Elementary Education in American University of Beirut.

Teaching is a process of giving and taking, as both the teacher and the students are exchanging knowledge and information from each other. I graduated from High School with a Lebanese Baccalaureate. As a native speaker of the Arabic language, and a fluent English speaker, a clear interest of minewas shown in linguistic areas, both English and Arabic. It was a hard decision for me to choosebetween teaching English or Arabic, but eventually I ended up choosing English and Social Studies as subject matter areas in my field.

As the Vice president of the Education society in AUB, I helped in planning and preparing a lot of curricular and extracurricular activities for underprivileged children, in various areas such as reading, writing, science and technology both on and off campus. Besides, I had the chance to volunteer in the Children Cancer Center Lebanon, where I used to assist some children academically and provide them with some tutoring, along with some fun recreational activities. This was my third academic year, as I completed a whole year internship in International College Beirut as a practice teacher for grade 1 students. It made me even more certain that I’m in the right profession, as it solidified and concretized my teaching skills, helped me refine some of my classroom management skills, social skills, etc. There were few international students in the classroom, which gave me some insight on how to accept culturally diverse people and manage dealing with them. At the end of my practicum, I received the Award of Excellence in Practice Teaching for showing positive results and commitment both in my practicum courses and my field experience.

My love and passion for teaching grows day after day, and the FLB program will help me further develop my teaching skills, as it is providing me the opportunity to apply my teaching skills at a higher academic level. The challenge here is to apply the teaching process I learned in English using my native Arabic language to foreign students. I am highly motivated to experience thisjourney as it would enrich my skills. I would love to see myself teaching in a setting different than the one I’m used to. Also, the interaction with people of different backgrounds and nationalities will allow me to view things from a wider scope and discover more things about myself. This program would allow me to transfer the skills I gained back to my home country, and will allow me to work on developing myself as a teacher. I am more than willing to represent and be an ambassador of my country Lebanon in the United States. I don’t see myself as an elementary educator my whole life. I hope that this opportunity will allow me to further explorefurther fields that I would pursue in my future. In addition, this opportunity would help mefurther develop skills of handling my own responsibility abroad, be my own decision maker, to get outside my bubble and comfort zone to explore the world out there.
