My Motivation To Enter Public Health Program In The UK
My name is shrasti Lohiya resident of India. I have been working as a dedicated health care professional since completing my graduate studies. My days in the obstetrics and gynaecology department often made me think about, what if people lived healthier lives, practiced preventive medicine, and took precautions against illness and disease? Although I love helping people, so needed a career that helped a large number of people, emphasized prevention and primary care rather than tertiary care. With previous work experience, I believe that my decision to pursue a career in public health is firm. To raise the awareness, I have embarked on the journey.
Since My childhood I have dreamed of becoming a doctor. I was influenced by my grandfather when I used to visit him at his clinic I saw his humanitarian work and how he helped to ease his patients pain. After that I began to read about Medical field and I found myself in this field. I was determined to do my best in order to study it and I was actually able to finish school with a grade that allows first choice any field I want. MBBS was my first choice when I started studying at the university, I came in contact with scientific research and the new achievements in method of treatment and cure the disease and ever since then I have had another ambition which is to have an impact in the field of nutrition, health related diseases.
As for my academic history, I’ve completed my HSC in 2008 from Harsukh Digamber School, with first division marks. With my high passion and positive attitude, I decide to take five and half year medical programme in Sri Aurbindo Medical College Indore from 2008-2015 along with I year of internship from 2014-2015. In 2015, I worked at Amaltas medical institute and hospital as junior resident in obstetrics and gynaecology department, here we organised clinical camps every Saturday in different rural areas to raise awareness among pregnant women about nutrition, hygiene, family planning and other health related issue. Because of my hard work, dedication and passion towards my work I was appointed as Head of the junior resident of my department as well as other departments. During this period I was a part of NABH certification programme preparation team and managed code blue section. I also gained experience in community medicine department as tutor. As from medical background, I worked as medical officer in primary health centre of my institute. In 2017, I worked with Apollo Hospital as medical registar in obstetrics and gynaecology department. When I was working as junior resident in obstetrics and gynaecology department, I got an offer from head of the department of community medicine to join them. From there my journey towards public health started. My first interaction to understand about this field came when my professor plans to organise a seminar and invited a faculty from “All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health” as a speaker. He speaks about contemporary health related issues.
The world of "capitation, " "rationing of care, " I saw the range of problems that public health professionals were trying to solve in innovative ways. This one seminar provided me with a basic but thorough understanding of the issues faced in health care today. In the last two years I have continued to learn about public health both through coursework and work in the field. Along with my duties at Obstetrics and gynaecology department, I attended seminars and met with public health leaders at different functions and events. All these activities confirmed my growing interest in preventive medicine, outcomes and effectiveness, and quality of care, particularly within the private/managed care sector. These are my strongest interests because I believe they are fundamental to our nation’s health. We must achieve efficiency and access without sacrificing quality. The Glasgow Caledonian University would help me achieve my goals of furthering my public health education through the specialize coursework offered as part of its health administration program. I always work hard hard to achieve my goals.
To continue further my Master degree in public health Programme, this is the ideal institution for me to study. I am highly influenced by the ideal location and world class standard based designed course in the world where new researches evolves very day, I need specialised knowledge to have a competitive edge. I firmly believe that university is right direction for me and is precisely it can give me the kind of knowledge and skills that I cannot obtain in India. Another reason, why I want to study in United Kingdom is I have been informed that UK Universities are of the world class standards which are upgraded and changed according to the standards to suit the changes made in international context. Therefore, I’m eager to enter the new practical knowledge to acquire competitive edge. This course will give me an opportunity to build successful career, as the UK education is highly respected and valued in India. Studying there will not only give me an opportunity to learn new strategies but will also allow to explore the qualities in me, based on which I’ll be able to make contribution in well being and development of my country. Since rejecting physical therapy as a career possibility my interest in public health has only grown.
I welcome the challenge of serving a large community and participating in such a dynamic and challenging field. What if an aspirin a day could prevent heart attacks? What if abandoning unnecessary procedures saved thousands of Pounds, which then allowed a hospital to treat other patients needing care? What if every person was guaranteed care and that care was good? I would like to find answers for these questions during my career as a public health graduation. I heartily thank you for considering my application to your program.
