My Motivation To Get A Degree In The Field Of Business Nad Finance
Studying for a degree in the field of business would provide me with the skills and knowledge I need to build my career and explore the possibilities offered by the ongoing development of global commerce.
I have long had a particular interest in investment, whether it be in the stock market, property, or, in my specific case, the exotic car market. My love of cars has helped me to understand why certain models have soared in value while others languish in the sales charts, and I keep a close watch on prices so that I can be always up-to-date in the market. On a wider scale, I am keen to learn more about business and finance, to see how best to cope with risk when managing investments, how to judge the historic performance of a financial asset and how to use ideas of probability to forecast what might happen in the future.
I am also interested in how firms devise their business strategies, research their likely customers and decide on the best ways to market their products. I should like to explore the financial markets and the ways firms raise money to support their new ventures, and I should also like to look at some aspects of managing the workforce in a company, fostering talent so that it can lead to benefits for everyone involved. My own internationalism is evident in my bilingual skills. English is my mother tongue and I am fluent in Arabic, a useful asset in an increasingly globalised marketplace. I am interested in the issues that might arise when trading internationally, and selling to a customer base that could have quite different notions of ownership and value. How does a firm plan its overseas marketing, and what sort of unfamiliar relationship might there be between employer and employee? I realise that these are complex questions requiring careful handling, and I am therefore very keen to study my subject at the highest level in a degree course.
My direct experience of the commercial workplace includes a placement with Thomson Reuters, Dubai, in the Financial Risk Department, where I learnt about commodities trading and the financial software the company produced to facilitate it. I also spent time at Aurora Aviation, Dubai, in the Accounts Department, gaining an insight into how to make invoices and statements of account. I very much liked the feeling of being part of a team, where everyone was working towards a common goal and there was a strong sense of mutual support. The demanding and exact work gave me a model of the high importance of detail in all transactions and investigations, as well as making me aware of the usefulness of constructive criticism.
I have recently been working on a Foundation Course in Business and Finance with David Game College, which has given me a useful basis for my further studies, stimulating my curiosity about many aspects of business processes and my eagerness to find out more. I have already learnt that working in business demands precision, real leadership skills, the ability to make clear decisions and the recognition that the team is the best human technology for solving problems. I am always able to work productively in a team, though I will show my own initiative when necessary, and I have the key managerial instinct for delegating responsibilities to the right people.
I am always keen to learn new things and am never cast down by criticism, which I see as part of the learning process. I look forward to a fruitful and enjoyable career, both at university and thereafter, and am confident that I have the energy, the imagination and the drive to succeed.
