My Motivation To Get A Master’S Program In Data Science

The enormous amounts of data generated by the 8 billion strong population of the planet has proved to be a reservoir of vast untapped potential, time and again. Data is literally the currency of industrialization. Moreover, the huge demand for data scientists speaks volumes about how valuable of anaddition it is to any industry. I dream to delve into the nuances of this field and carve a niche for myself. In order to fulfil this lofty ambition, I feel the need to build upon my existing skills and as such this Master’s Program proves to be the best option for career enrichment.

On completing school, an interest in Mathematics and Science saw me take up a Bachelor's program in Electronics and Electrical engineering, with the added advantage that this choice would afford multiple career paths if necessary. Theoretical learning went hand in hand with practical experience as I gained a broad understanding of different electrical domains.

Having been rigorously trained in theory I yearned to broaden my practical knowledge spectrum, and thus Iundertook various projects and internships. A visit to a steel plant located in Andhra taught me the application of electricity in the alloying of raw metal into steel. A training undertaken at RTPP (Rayalaseema ThermalPower Plant) taught me the thermal energy equivalent of coal, the amount of power generated from it and theusage of water as a coolant in this industry. A PCB designing training taught me the process of the same andthe materials used for fabrication. During my final year I attended an Internship in BVRIT College in MEDAK district Telangana where I was able to witness the different activities involved in the functioning ofa solar plant. The time and effort invested into this experience gave me the opportunity to mingle with professionals and observe the problem handling techniques and routine handling methods employed by engineers of such calibre.

The knowledge gained through the internship inspired my final year project titled, "Detailed Study Of Indnor Solar PV Project”, at the INDNOR SOLAR PV Project, BVRIT. The said project is anInternational Project for long term field performance study of photovoltaic cells made with solar grade silicon (ESS) cells between two countries India and Norway. I gleaned multiple skills from this experience such asthe design and implementation of Solar PV systems, methodology of performance analysis in solar powerplants, introduction to solar instrumentation software such as Day star I-V tracer and Testo 876 Thermal Imager and testing of solar modules. I was chosen as the leader of the project due to my innovative and out of-the-box thinking which inculcated leadership skills in me.

Conservation of Power is a recurrent theme in engineering research. Determined to contribute a solution tothis problem, I worked on the development of a light sensing circuit where a transistor was used to switch ON the garden lamp light when sunlight decreased below the range of human visibility, and OFF again when the light became incident on the LDR. Working on this project apart from sharpening my critical thinking, has definitely played a role in improving my time and task management skills.

During my undergraduate studies I was acknowledged as having excellent organisational skills and won an award for event organization. I was also given the opportunity to mentor ten students and successfully helped eight of them clear their pending backlogs. This honed my people skills and my innate ability to spot the strength and weaknesses of people and mould these into a beneficiary memorandum for success for them.

Towards the end of my bachelor's program, I wished to gain a stronger foundation in programming. I therefore took up a job, where I worked as a software developer mainly in Java for approximately 3 years. This experience taught me important skills in technologies such as Java, springs, SQL, HTML5, CSS3, Java Towards the end of my bachelor's program, I wished to gain a stronger foundation in programming. Despite being a Java developer, I often engaged inprojects directly linked to data and have developed certain projects in Hadoop and cloud computing. My major achievements at my work place where I became best employee with in period of 1 year and became one of the team leader in organisation. On a personal front, this work experience imparted strong leadership qualities and important team building skills. It was during the process of inculcating different concepts ofcomputer science that I was able to understand the fundamentals of data science. I was able to marvel at the importance of analytics in driving businesses towards data driven, informed decisions. The domains that I was able to assimilate made it abundantly clear that my logical approach and analytical mindset would be suitedfor a career in Business analytics. Understanding that expertise in analytics was possible only through anintense training program, I have decided to pursue a graduate program in data science.

Having thus gained an introduction to this sector, I feel tremendously excited by the opportunity to obtain indepth knowledge of intricate concepts that shall prepare me for a career in the field. On completing the program, I intend to join a reputed company as a data scientist, contributing to the development of analytics tools that can process and analyse the massive tides of data, enabling the formation of data driven decisions.

In the long run, I envision turning entrepreneur, combining my technical knowledge with my field experience to guide likeminded engineers to create adaptive analytical tools that can enable better decision making andaid in the growth of client organisations. The enormity of my goals is nothing in comparison to the satisfaction I will garner from their fulfilment, andhence I possess the passion and drive to achieve them. However, the irreplaceable skill set that I shall gain by being a part of Computer Science program at your Esteem University is vital in the becoming of my goals. I also look forward to delving into the nuances of subjects like Data science. The cutting-edge lab facilities and the expert faculty boasts of an ideal learning environment. Also, the ongoing projects are viewed by me as the perfect opportunity to provide contribution to my chosen field as well as enhance my skills in the process.

Thus, I view this Master’s Program to be the ideal choice at this stage of my career. I look forward to learn, share and grow as a part of your vibrant scholastic community.
