My Motivation To Study Management Information System On A Degree Level
As technology has spread to every tiny aspect of our lives, the role of engineering management has becoming more relevant in every domain and industry. Understandably, there has been a constant increase in the demand for managers who understand technology and engineering aspects alike. This, I realized while working in the IT industry; and this is what triggered my interest towards wanting to study MIS. Throughout my education, I have given my best and maintained a high level of competence and performed exceptionally well having scored 98. 18% in grade 10 and 80% in grade 12. Thereafter, I studied Bachelors of Engineering in Electronics & Telecommunications from Mumbai University and passed with Distinction having scored a GPA of 8. 32/10. 00.
Being a Distinction holder all through my under-graduate study, I was awarded the ‘Certificate of Merit’ for scoring highest marks in Micro Controller and Applications in the 3rd year, and also for scoring highest marks in Image and Video Processing in the 4th year of Engineering. My final year project - G Smart ATM System – consisted of conceptualization, simulation and operationalization of the “G Smart ATM System” which is a more secure ATM system through the use of GSM Technology (One Time Password) and Biometrics (Fingerprint Recognition) in order to solve real world problems like card fraud etc. A project that I worked on in the 3rd year was ‘Dark Activated Light Indicator’ that was aimed to control lighting using an LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) which turns the light on or off in the form of a switch whenever required. Another project of mine was ‘Speech Recognition Using Arduino’. This project was developed to control home lightings using Speech Recognition technique with Arduino.
Working on various projects during the course of my under-graduate study was a remarkable experience that allowed me to try and test not only what I learned in class, but also to experiment with ideas beyond the college syllabus. As internship, I did a brief stint in Train Management System (TMS) where I acquired an in-depth knowledge about the various techniques used in India’s Western Railway by Train Management System to provide a failsafe method for systematic operations of trains between Churchgate and Virar in Mumbai.
I attended various workshops during college, like ‘Printed Circuit Board Designing (Eagle), a workshop on Arduino, and also on Motion Sensing and Gestures Controlling. These helped me develop a deep insight into different processes in my field of study and also gave me a hands-on experience with the same. In addition to this, I took a six-day course in ‘Industrial Automation Training on Programmable Logic Controller’ at M/s. Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. Here, I gained an in-depth knowledge about how to program using Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) for the automation of various electromechanical processes in industry and also fault fixing. Besides academics, I was keenly interested in various extra-curricular activities as well. At the age of 14, I participated in the District Level Fencing competition and won a bronze medal. The following year, I represented my school at the State Level Fencing competition organized by the Maharashtra State Fencing Association. Having a passion for art, I learned drawing and have passed the Intermediate Drawing Grade Examination held by Directorate of Art & Chairman, Examination Committee, Maharashtra State, India. Also, I actively participated in the college’s annual cultural fest - Tatva Moksha Lakshya (2015) – and secured the second position in the Graffiti event. On the whole, I had played a key role in the organization of the entire fest and was presented the ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ by the college Principal for having been a Member of the Entrepreneurship Development Cell for two consecutive years - 2014-15 and 2015-16. In addition to this, I took the initiative to organize as many as 14 treks in college. I primarily chose forts of the 15th and 16th centuries in different parts of India, which offered us a great experience in the form of different climates and terrains; and my efforts were well appreciated by friends and faculty members alike.
Soon after procuring the bachelor’s degree, I was offered the job of a Software Engineer at Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd. My job profile consists of developing an efficient algorithm which consumes less memory and performs better, developing interactive user interfaces, maintaining comments so that code is readable and understandable, prioritizing tasks in hand. As a professional, I have developed an inclination and acumen for applying logical solutions to business problems and also to meet client needs. I also possess deep understanding and knowledge of various software skills like Core Java, DotNet, JQuery, HTML, JavaScript, SQL, MVC, MATLAB, C++, C, C# and ASP. Net. As an Electronics & Telecommunications Engineer and as a Software employee, I have gathered practical engineering and programming skills coupled with coding techniques. However, I believe that these skills need to be marketed to an audience comprising of managers, customers and other organizations in an effective and customized manner, which only a multifaceted individual with managerial expertise and know-how can successfully do. With an aim to acquire this ability, I am desirous of pursuing the master’s degree in MIS. By taking up MIS for higher studies, I will be able to diversify my career. As I have led my team for many projects and took a lead to solve our clients’ problems, I realized that I possessed good managerial skills. Therefore, I decided to hone these skills by pursuing the MIS program. MIS is a technically driven course where I will learn how to manage these systems by understanding both the management and engineering languages. I wish to study as to how to do enterprise models, database concepts for business, and to help manage information systems in the corporation. On completion of the MIS program, my focus would be on the actual business side of information gathering and management to maximize the profit for my company. Studying this program will eventually lead me to fulfilling my dream of heading an organization as its Managing Director!
From studying in college up to being a professional, I have inculcated in me various qualities like perseverance, teamwork, punctuality, leadership and a positive attitude. All these have only led me to success so far. My aim is to use these virtues to the optimum to acquire the skill set and knowledge in order to become a professional who will work for making a difference.
To be able to fulfill my dream, I am sure that your university is the right place for me. The state-of-the-art facility for students and the infrastructure provided will doubtlessly facilitate learning. But above all, the highly qualified and experienced faculty members definitely give your institute an edge over the others. I shall consider myself fortunate to become a part of your institute and shall commit to excelling there.
