Animal testing is considered animal experimentation, which means an experiment with living organisms that have nearly the same capacity to humans such as sense organs and nervous systems. Testing or experimentation is to measure and check the quality before you actually use or consumer the particular product. Animal testing means non-human animals in experiments that seek to control the variables that affect the behavior or biological system under study. Animal experimentation mostly appeared in medical school and sometimes in some universities where they use to seek the vaccine to treat humans. In terms of cosmetics, the lab will sometimes use the rabbit to test for allergies because the rabbit’s skin itself has a fast reaction and the cell is similar to the human’s skin. So, this essay will mostly talk about the advantages and disadvantages of having an experiment on animals.
Animal testing mostly advantages humans such as improve human health. So we are able to make sure if people will never be used with some harmful and toxin in cosmetics or any of medical usage. Also, humans can be protected from allergies on some of the vaccines, medicine, or even cosmetics. A lot of high-end brands (Lamer, Mac cosmetics, Chanel, and etc.) also have animal testing to confirm that they will not harm the customer’s skin. Animal testing is highly regulated to protect animals from mistreatment. In my opinion, Animal testing shouldn’t be banned. Medicine, cosmetic, chemical, and food product testing, they all are beneficial to human. Many diseases have curable medicines because of animal testing. For example, smallpox and asthma. People might think that animal testing is cruel, unethical, and inhuman but they don’t think how many lives have been saved by this type of experiment. Animals are the same as humans. We all are developed from animals back in the past. Since animals share many features with humans that’s the reason why scientists choose to use animals to test the safety and effectiveness of their new medicines, cosmetics, chemicals, or food products. Professor Doug Hilton, director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute said that he’s proud of their track record of caring for animals and he has been involved in the discovery of immune-boosting hormones that are used by thousands of cancer patients each year. This apparently means that animal testing is effective and helpful, plus he said he also takes care of these animals, so that is not unethical like what people imagine at all. In addition, if the scientists choose to test the experiment on human, people will against it more and no one will be willing too that, so that’s why animal testing are a good way to do the experiment. If animal testing are banned and have to stop, the scientists would have to either test their new medicines on human or not test it on anything all at. Even animal lovers might think oppositely, but i think that animal testings have more advantages than disadvantages. I’m an animal lover as well, but there’s no such thing guarantee that animal testings are bad or inhuman.
In conclusion, animal testing should be continued and not banned, because it’s the most effective and reliable way to confirm that the medicines, cosmetics, and food products that people take, eat, wear, and consume, are safe for them. It is the best choice comparing to other testing methods which are quite unreliable such as vitro testing, computer modeling, or even researching with human volunteers, which is more unethical and cruel than animal testings
Asthma, a chronic disease which has caused millions of death, has been cured by Bronchodilators which has discovered by animal testings. People think that killing one monkey is unethical and wasting, but isn’t a monkey worth millions of lives that will be saved from it. Moreover, not every experiment causes the death of animals that are tested. Therefore, there is no points against it for the people who don’t agree with it, because they are getting benefits from animal testing as well. Animal testings are used to make sure if the medicine is safe for human consumption or not. Animal testing might cause pain or suffering for the animals but apparently there is no better way another than this. If people are still arguing about this, seems like they have to choose either use a medicine that has not been tested and guarantee, do the testing on human, or won’t have any medicines at all. Honestly, there are not many choices.
