My Own Cinderella Story Or How I Made A Right Decision
Finding out what I want to do with my life is a Cinderella story of its own. I always told myself when I grow up I want to finish school as quick as possible and have a nice career that will give me a lot of money; that has always been my goal, but reaching that happily ever after is not as easy as I thought. I am faced with multiple schools to choose from, deciding what career I want, and the degree that I should take. To begin with, I have to decide what school I want to go to. Picking out the right college or university is not an easy task since there are many options to choose from. Each one is different from the other, they might vary in size or in location and the majors that they offer. I know for a fact that the college I want to attend has to be credible but not extremely expensive and it doesn’t have to be well known.
According to the article “Picking the Right College: What we can learn about college quality from the average earnings of its students?” by Bryce Ward, it states that: “While choosing one college over another may affect the quality of one’s experience overall, making the right college choice requires more than looking to a simple ranking.” With that being said, the ranking or position of the college does not matter, I shouldn’t have to worry about how the college I attend is not the best. I should be looking for one that fits my needs based off the information the college supplies; instead, of its position. Additionally, most widely known schools usually end up having inflated college tuitions, something that I want to avoid since I don’t want to end up with student debt. A school that I would most likely apply to would be Nova Southeastern University because based off of their website the tuition after financial aid is $13,000 which is still a lot, but it's not as bad since it fits my needs and that’s what matters. Moreover, I have to figure out what career I want to study. This has always been something I struggled with as a child.
I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I always told myself later on I’ll figure out. It is now my senior year and I still don’t know what to do. I know that the career that I take has to be something that I enjoy because if I don’t enjoy it then I will be miserable my whole life. When researching this topic I realized I was not the only one who felt this way and that there are many others who don’t know what to study. They’ll go to college and later on end up switching majors, but I want to avoid that situation since it will only hinder me. Interestingly enough, I came upon a career quiz and it told me that I would be fit for a career in Information technology. It appealed to me since I like technology, I would always fix broken phones and take apart and put together my toys. Also, it doesn’t require much math and science, which can be time consuming and troublesome, but for any career that I choose to study I have to make sure that I put in effort and not slack off since I tend to do that sometimes. This will affect me a lot and will hinder all my progress, I have to make sure I get my act together if I want to succeed.
Correspondingly, I have to decide which degree benefits me the most. There are many degree options that I can choose from, I can get and Associates, a Bachelor or even a Doctorate if I wanted to. I want a degree that I know I can handle and that will provide me with a substantial amount of money. An Associates degree is the shortest one and they usually take a year or two but it doesn’t yield much money, and a Doctorates degree can take as long as eight years. For me personally I wouldn’t want to spend that much time in school, but I do want a degree that will earn me a good amount of money, so a Bachelor’s degree seems like the way to go.
According to Capella University a bachelor degree allows you to acquire more job opportunities and they only takes 4 years, which is 120 credits or 40 classes. Also, you are more unlikely to be unemployed and will earn a higher paying salary than if you had an Associates degree. To briefly summarize, to reach my happily ever after I have to overcome some obstacles such as choosing the right college, picking my major and the degree that I want. After looking into my problems, I realized that figuring out what I want to do with my life is much easier than what I thought. With hard work and effort I can eventually achieve my goals and have my Cinderella story.
