Myth - The Transmission Of Experience To Future Generations
Myths start from the start of time and is accepted down from generation by stories, education and word of mouth. Myths help to complete understanding of regular curiosities' that have no honest explanation. The myth often starts toward the actual beginning and is absent down time to time; by either word of mouth or by teachings of the rituals. The Oceanic individuals of Tahiti of the South Pacific and the San cultures of Zimbabwe are two nations that have stayed active by word of mouths and rituals. Those two cultures are more like Neolithic cultures. Differences between some modern mythology and ancient mythology is that modern actions exist till this day. Modern mythology is not characteristically used to refer to religious stories, though like the ancient San cultures of Zimbabwe where they do a dance for divine spiritual purpose and to tell history of their culture has existence use in churches today at many different events. One custom that was in repetition by the San people of Zimbabwe was the “trance dance”; lengthy dancing was supposed to initiate “num” which is personal energy. This num was believed to travel through the dancer’s bodies, exploding and producing the dancers to perspire and shake, stagger and sometimes drop.
In the book, mentioned that these dancers’ nums are believed to cure ailment, “managing game, or controlling the weather. ” I believe that myths are inherently non-fictional depending on what they are. They could have once been something and then someone could have come along and tweaked it into something that takes the significant meaning away from it. I recognize as being an African American within our churches dance plays a significant part in our life to attach with our spiritual God. Even though modern myth culture is not so much like the ancient Neolithic culture, we have a lot in communal. Early myth was about more so of where they initiated from, their belief, how to farm, hunt, and create their own living accommodations and control weather. They are required to pass that experience to the next group. Everyone knows of the “The Jersey Devil” mythical creature in the Pine Barrens. So, I researched and found out that there is a rather recent myth going on in a Union County town called Westfield. There has claimed to be a mysterious stalker that people have named “The Watcher”. People that live in the home have been receiving letters stating that this person’s grandfather use to watch over this million-dollar house when he was alive and now that he is deceased it is now his turn. Turns out that these last few years it has been scaring people off the property and no one can pinpoint who it is.
