Jamaican food has a distinctive genealogy. It is a mixture of African, European, Chinese, and Indian cuisines. The typical Jamaican diet is based on locally grown foods such as yams, sweet potatoes, bread fruit, bananas, coconuts, and pineapples. Common foods: Ackee and sal fish is the natural dish of the Jamaica. Sal fish refers to the salted fish that is always served with this dish. It has been eaten at home for as long as Jamaicans can remember. The kidney shaped Yellow flesh removed from the Centre Of the ackee seed has a nutty flavor when cooked.

Another popular roadside dish is “Jerked pork” spiced and cooked on an open fire. The style of cooking has now spread to other meats like chicken. Jerked chicken is now very popular. Some other popular food are curry goat, fried dumplings, fried plantain, cassava, pimento, oxtail, Jamaican patty. In Jamaica sacrificially slaughtered animals and birds are eaten in a ritual context. Several African religious sects use goats for sacrifice and in Kumina, an Afro religious practice, goat blood is mixed with rum and drunk. Jamaican Drinks: Popular Jamaican drinks are made using coconut water and goat’s milk. The abundance of fruit provides opportunities for many delicious flavors to be blended by mixing different juices. Coffee is the most common beverage is the common beverage. One type of coffee brand of named “Blue Mountain Coffee” is reputed to have such an exceptional test that it commands the highest price of any brand in the world.

Alcohol plays a significant role in Jamaican culture. Bars are found everywhere and provided a center force for socializing. No one type of drink is especially popular, although cold beer is ubiquitous. A local brand called Red Stripe has the local name “The police man” because the Jamaican police uniform has a red stripe on the pants. Tia Maria is one of the expensive drinks and popular around world. Jamaica’s most famous drink is RUM. RUM is often blended with different fruits to produce unique fruit liquors. It is also widely used in fruit punches. Daily Living: Most people in Jamaica raise early to start the day soon after day break, regardless of whether they live in the city or the country. People prefer to get their house work done early, because it gets too hot later in the day. Eating breakfast together as a family is common. Having lunch out is common but the evening meal is nearly always eaten at home with family or friends. The traditional school run found in other countries is rare in Jamaica. Some people may do the daily drop-off and other pay to taxi driver for regular pickup. Good well paid jobs are in short supply in Jamaica. This gives employments the upper hand, and despite strong labor laws many workers feel they don’t have much power. With unemployment at around 10 percent and with a high cost of living many Jamaicans are constantly looking for work for a better paid job.

Special utensils: Dutch pot is one of the special utensil in Jamaica. Every Jamaican must to have it and cooked curry goat in it.

Special Clothing: Jamaican cloths are very bright multicolor, organic and breathy. An interesting piece of Jamaican female dress is a headgear called “Bandana”. Specially on Independence Day they wear it. Hospitality: Jamaican peoples are very welcoming. They treated guests warmly in their home and offered various traditional foods. Respect to elder adults: Jamaican people are very respective to elder adults. Traditionally they love to live with their parents and don’t want to send them nursing cares.
