Oprah Winfrey: Woman Influencer Who Changing Society

Before women had the right to vote or before they gained equal in 1972. Seeing a black significant woman or an influential one was something you rarely heard of. In today's age, we have many women influencers with some even going on and changing society. One of those women is Oprah Gail Winfrey. She is an actress, entrepreneur etc. She is best known for being the host of her TV program “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that ended in 2011, and her TV network (OWN). As a black woman, she uses her fame and power to change people’s opinion, and society as a whole.

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born in Kosciusko Mississippi on January 29, 1954. Her childhood was a little rough as she was physically abused by many of her mothers male friends. After those situation she later moved in with her father in Nashville. Winfrey entered Tennessee State University in 1971 where she started working at the radio station. After finishing school she moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she hosted a chat show. After that, she got recruited to host her own show 'A.M Chicago'. In 1986 Winfrey started The Oprah Winfrey show. The show lasted till 2011. It played on many different channels and earned millions of dollars which help to make Winfrey a billionaire

The first way Winfrey utilizes her fame is through her influences on people. In 1986 Winfrey launched The Oprah Winfrey show. From the show, Winfrey opened conversations about race in the U.S. In the first season she taped one of the episodes in Forsyth County, Georgia. A county where the population of black people was 0 for almost 75 years. 25 years later with her influence, the population grew to seven thousand African-Americans. The show was also filled with prohibited topics such as abuse, adultery, and addiction. That helped her audience feel comfortable, and safe to talk about what they were going through as it also helped them to overcome it.

Giving big or helping others is something that all celebrities have the power to do. Oprah Winfrey is one of the few that chose to use that power. In the 1900s Winfrey led a campaign that began a database of child abusers. She also had a private charity where she gave hundreds of grants to women in the U.S and around the world to support their education. Not to mention she donated $40 million to set up a leadership academy for girls near Johannesburg.

Oprah Gail Winfrey is one of the few black women out in the world that has been making a difference for years now and continues to change lives to this day. Throughout her lifetime she has done some remarkable things that will never be forgotten through her talk show, book club, Web site, radio channel, personal growth tours, YouTube channel, and Facebook page. Winfrey is also an activist who supports over 30 charities that help out everyone no matter your race, color, or religion. Her talk show has been imitated by so many others but no one could ever be quite like Winfrey when it comes to her wealth, fame, fans and impact on society.
