Introduction:

Oscar Wilde was Irish, he was born on 16 October 1854 in Dublin, Ireland. He died on 30 November 1900. Oscar Wilde was a famous Irish novelist in19th century London, he was a playwright, poet, and critic, he wrote 11 short stories most of his short stories were written for children, one of his short stories was selfish giant, this story was written for children. The selfish giant was published in 1888, I think that story has an important sermon, every child must read that story and also adults need to read it. the story is about a giant who is very selfish, the story is talking about his selfishness, He came back after he had stayed with his friend ogre for seven years, when he came back he saw children playing in his garden, children used to play in the giant’s garden after they finish school, when the giant found them in his garden he was angry and he drove them out of the garden, he built high walls and put up a notice board to not allow anyone to get into the garden, the spring came all over the country, but only in his garden, the winter stayed for along time, later he discovered that the spring will never come to his garden if he did not allow children to play in the garden, at the end he stopped being selfish and allowed them to enter to the garden because of that at the end of the story the little boy came to take him to paradise.

Body:

From my point of view, Oscar Wilde wrote a happy ending for the story because the giant stopped being selfish and allowed children to play in his garden, at the end he died but it is still a happy ending because the little boy takes him to paradise, but what would happen if he did not stop being selfish, the end will be totally changed.

The spring came all over the country , only in his garden the winter stayed for a long time ,one day the children get into the garden when they came into the garden ,the giant hear the birds sing in his garden again and the wind stop blowing and the trees blossoms and beautiful flowers appeared in the garden ,the giant was happy because finally the spring came ,but he was angry because children enter the garden again ,the giant did not knew that the spring came because the children enter to the garden and play in it, he did not knew that the garden was waiting for the children to came to play in it and bring the spring with them, he thought it was just a coincidence that the spring came when the children enter the garden, he go down stairs towards the garden when the children saw the giant they were afraid and run away out of the garde, the giant was angry, he found that the children crept in the garden through a little hole in the wall ,the giant close the hole in the wall and high the walls of the garden higher and higher ,and put up a noticed board bigger than the first board, after he finished the wall ,he discovered that the winter has came again to his garden, he was angry and sad, suddenly he heard someone crying he look round and found a little boy crying because he couldn’t climb the tree, but he made the giant more angry, the boy did not saw the giant because his eyes was full with tears, the giant shouted at him and took him in his hand and drove him out of the garden, the little boy crying because he was afraid from the giant. The giant did not stop being selfish, he insisted that the spring will come, even if the children weren’t playing in the garden. Years went over, the spring didn’t come, only one season stayed at the giant’s garden, regardless of what season is at this time of the year, the winter stayed forever in the giant’s garden, selfishness dominated him, he didn’t want to admit that the children were the reason that brings the garden spring, his heart was so cold because he is alone and selfish, he didn’t want to share with children his garden, one day the giant was found lying on the snow in his garden looks very cold as his heart, at the end his selfishness killed him and he lives alone sadly all his life because of his garden, and died alone in his garden

Conclusion:

This end clarifies the consequence of selfishness, the end shows how selfishness can kill its owner, the giant was selfish until the last minute in his life he did not stop being selfish, he did not want to share his garden with anyone he just wanted it for himself, because of that he lived alone in his castle which contains his cold garden and died in it. I think the selfish person will always be alone in his life because he just wants everything only for himself.
