Outside Influences On Teenagers’ Life-Determining Decisions

Life is filled with decisions waiting to be made. It is important to make the right decisions because they are what determine your future. Teenagers make decisions everyday, some good and some bad. In order to have a bright future, excelling during high school is very important. If one does not attain good grades then they will be unable to get accepted into a University, therefore not have the opportunity to succeed in a professional career.

There is a lot of pressure surrounding the youth and this can be overbearing at times. Children go through many hardships; from trying to fit in, to passing with good grades but also being ‘cool’ at the same time. Small things like skipping classes or sleeping in on a school day may look and sound cool to other kids, but such factors can lead to bigger problems. Outside influences also play a key role in influencing individuals to take paths that they originally would not have considered. My brother is an example of this because he was influenced by my parents to become a doctor instead of following his dreams and becoming a software engineer. The actions and choices of individuals are the result of outside influences and one’s willingness to participate in determining their own future. The choices and actions of individuals can have lasting effects on his/her present and future. To a great extent, these choices affect the individuals in many ways. These choices contribute to the fall or the success of individuals. There are many factors that play a part in how one makes decisions. These factors play a significant role in what path the person takes and in the end, how they turn out to be. Teenagers make decisions every day.

They are presented with a variety of choices and are asked what they want to do with their lives. This decision is extremely difficult for some because of the circumstances that prevent them from doing well. School is a big part of every teenager’s life. If they do well in school then they can go on to university and and pursue a profession or career of their choice. If they slack off, then it can be hard to get back on track. Students begin to slack because of many reasons. The biggest one of all is laziness. It is common knowledge that today’s youth is remarkably lazy. Due to this idle behavior, teenagers make decisions that may or may not affect them negatively later on. Whether it is forgetting to do their homework or just simply skipping a class to sleep in instead, it begins to build up. This can cause the student to fail their classes and thus not get into university. If your marks are not good, there will not be many choices to choose from in university. This will potentially be a setback that the student will have to overcome. If they do not find a way around this and get their act together, this will affect their future and ruin their chances of ever becoming successful. Therefore, the willingness of individuals to participate in determining their own future plays a key role in the outcome of their lives.

Similarly, outside influences also play a key role in the direction one’s life goes. One of the biggest influences in a young person’s life is their own parents. Every parent raises their child in a different way, and with different sets of values. When children become teenagers, they come to the age where they now have to make their own decisions. Parents influence most of the decisions that kids make. Children look up to their parents for approval and some even base their decisions on what their parents would like. This starts to become an issue when the future is involved. Parents from the Asian side of the world are different from Western parents. They prefer their children to choose professions such as doctors or engineers. They put pressure on their children to do well in school so they can become what they want them to be. Not only does this harm the child’s mental state, they begin to think doing good in school is the only way to get their parent’s attention. The need to impress their parents becomes more crucial for them than to follow their own dreams. This also changes the outlook of their life because they no longer want to be what their hearts desire. If they make the choice to follow their parents wishes, they may become successful, but at the end of the day, they will find no joy in their work. Being successful is not the real goal here, it is being successful and also finding happiness in your work.

Therefore, outside influences impact the lives of individuals in both positive and negative ways. Additionally, outside influences also affect the actions and choices of individuals tremendously. From a young age, my older brother has been interested in electronics. He had such a craze for them and always wanted the latest gadgets that came out. He was very interested in them and knew every little detail about them. As he grew older, he continued to show interest and took it to the next level by doing it as a side job and repairing peoples devices. He did this for many years and actually took off some of the load from my parents shoulders. My parents were very grateful for him and wanted him to be successful. Although they supported his interests, they did not think he could make a career out of this and insisted he go into the medical field. He was not at all interested in becoming a doctor. He had his eyes set on becoming a software engineer but because of my parents persistence, he went into health sciences. They made him realize that this was his hobby and that it would be waiting for him after he got out of medical school. My parents only wanted what was best for him and so he made the choice to become a doctor.

Although he has everything he could possibly ask for, he is not entirely happy. His choices made everyone but him happy. Now he thinks that if only he took the time to convince our parents, things would be so different. His choices and actions allowed him to be very successful yet unfulfilled. Therefore, his actions affected the direction of his life both in a positive and negative way, and to a great extent. To a great extent, the actions and choices of individuals influence the direction of their life. The choices they make affect their lives in both positive and negative ways. If teenagers make the choice to not do well and waste their high school years, then it will be a tough road for them from there and onwards. If they choose to get their act together and excel through high school, then it will be an easy road ahead and they can enter a profession of their choice. Influences such as one’s parents also play a significant role in the direction one’s life goes. They are either supportive of their dreams or they are not. What matters is what the individual wants and what sacrifices they are willing to make.
