Overview Of The University Admissions System
Higher education means the education that covers a diploma, degree or equivalent qualification. The Ministry of Education has changed from the traditional university entrance examination system to the university's multiple enrollment program since 2002. The aim is to specialize the examination and to increase diversity of enrollment so that universities and colleges can set the standard conditions for enrollment according to the characteristics of the department, aiming at recruiting students who have suitable talents with them. At the present, the university admissions system is divided into "Stars Program", " Personal Application" and "Examination and Placement". Students can consider their own abilities and interests, and choose the appropriate pathway for their studies. The General Scholastic Ability Test consists of five subjects including Chinese, English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. In response to the implementation of the new curriculum, university examination must also be linked to each other, and individuals can apply for admission to achieve the goal of "appropriate selection." The examinations applied for admission in 2022 will be simplified because The General Scholastic Ability Test will be reduced to three subjects and not all the total score will be taken in the admission. So, the importance of the learning process will become to the main proportion.
In the future, when high school students apply to enter the university, they will no longer use a single academic test score as the admission mechanism. The university must plan for the enrollment (such as desired characteristic of students) and students with various abilities and traits that students will enroll in each listed universities and colleges which seems to fit with them. Not only candidates can enter the ideal university group, but also the universities can recruit students with the desired characteristics. Although, the recruitment method reduces the traditional enrollment selection that is based on the academic test scores and challenge to the candidates or the university itself, it is not easy for candidates to choose the most suitable university group among the various university groups. How to understand the candidates' needs and formulate the enrollment strategy are also the problem that must be studied. Referring to the changes in future entrance examinations for colleges and universities, the above topics have not yet been systematically explored and studied. Therefore, this research will use the big data applied for admission in each year as the basis for the study and apply the method of competition skill evaluation. Each school group is based on the school team selected by the candidates after the examination. The analogy which is the competition mode between the school groups will lead to competition evaluation and quantitative results for analysis.
Although the competition skill appraisal method has not been applied to the application of university admission in China, it has begun to be applied in the development of educational assessment, and further it can provide more comprehensive candidates’ information. Creating a test environment will enable candidates to participate in more collaborative, interactive, competitive, and enjoyable. It can not only improve candidates' motivation, but also provide measurement methods that are not available in traditional assessments. For example, provide the best challenge for children's learning by designing a user modeling module that adapts the difficulty of the game to the skill level of the child. The module applies the Bayesian rating method to estimate the skill level of the child and also has the difficulty level of the game item to pursue a personalized game progress.
Another example is that in the past, a person who has an English as a Foreign Language. The English vocabulary is relied on a paper-and-pencile (P&P) measurement. However, Tseng (2016) explores how to use computerized adaptive testing (CAT) as the feasibility and practicality of the above-mentioned alternative method for measuring English vocabulary. It finds that CAT can classify candidates into mastery and more efficiently and accurately. Tseng uses Bayesian estimation method (Bayes Modal Estimation) to estimate the candidate's CAT score. Pelánek (35) applies the Elo scoring system developed by the evaluation player to the education system. This system application will explain the relationship between the student's answers and the problem items, just like the match between the students and the problem items. In this way, it is easy to dynamically estimate the student's skills and the difficulty of the project. It can be known from the above literature that the method of competition skill evaluation has been widely and successfully applied to the development of educational evaluation for many scholars, but it is not only to evaluate students' ability for subjects in such the learning fields, but also to find out their relation. According to the development of the ranking system, in the early of the 1930s, there have been many Chess rating systems, which are also widely used in video game evaluation, such as Microsoft's Xbox video game system. The competitive skill scoring system, such as chess, has the following practical uses: (a) qualifying for candidates for elite tournaments, (b) pairing candidates with similar capabilities for tournaments, and (c) Monitoring the progress of these candidates.
