Parthenon Marbles Belong To Greece
I am writing to you about this very important matter that must be solved once and for all. This debate about whether to return the Parthenon Marbles or not has gone on for too long. These marbles must be returned, these precious pieces of masterful craftmanship were created by the Greeks making them the rightful owner. It is part of Greece where most amazing statues and sculptures were made. The Scottish lord broke the agreement with Greece stealing them. Selling them to the British afterwards. This shows the untrustworthy side of the British and Scottish.
The Marbles are part of Greece and are part of its culture. Taking them away is like playing basketball without a basketball and taking away a child’s toy. They are terrible things to do and describes the British taking the Marbles. 2500 years ago, Persians attacked Athens destroying most of Athens. The Persians were fatigued and dispirited, they decided to build a temple for the goddess Athena using the most talented and finest sculptors, architects and craftsmen which encouraged them to rebuild the city. The goddess Athena was to do with wisdom and craftmanship which is what all that participated in the build were. The Greeks have any temples for many different gods and goddess but this was more than a temple, a work of art to respect the goddess Athena. The sculptors made Marbles from the very wall of the Parthenon making them special. Giving them back is the best choice, isn’t it?
These precious artefacts were stolen by the British. 200 years ago, a Scottish lord named Elgin decided to find some new decorations for his mansion back in Scotland. He was a very selfish man and broke the agreement with Greece taking anything that he wanted. He saw interest in the Parthenon’s Marbles and ordered his workers to get it, cutting it, damaging the Parthenon at the same time. The Scottish lord illegally took the marbles and shipped them to England to have them shipped to his mansion. After that things went very bad for him and started to get low in funds, so he decided to sell them to Britain. Britain decided to take them and put it in a museum and decided not to give it back to Greece, even though it was demanded by the Greeks to give them back, they were refused. Therefore, it was illegally sold to the British making them untrustworthy and irresponsible. They must be given back!
Britain broke parts of the wonderful Parthenon, it showed destruction and carelessness. Elgin heavily damaged the Parthenon with saws and other tools just to get some marbles out of the wall, he had not a care in the world, all he wanted was those Marbles for some decorations in his mansion. One by one the Marbles came off while damaging the Parthenon. The building survived for 2300 years with its glory and beauty still intact until the Scottish lord came and decided to end the marvellous Parthenon’s splendour and magnificence. This act is unacceptable, destroying such a wonderful piece of art and a vital piece of evidence of the past are all gone. Why should the British be trusted any longer with such precious Marbles?
I strongly believe without a shadow of a doubt that the Marbles must be returned to the Greeks, as they are part of Greece and part of their culture, they were stolen and sold illegally to the British and the British showed no respect or care for the Parthenon Marbles origin and want them for personal use. Upon sawing the Marbles, the Scottish lord had no idea how much damage has been caused by sawing half of the Parthenon and how much evidence was lost. Hence the Parthenon Marbles must be returned.
