Embracing Diverse Intelligences: My Personal Statement
I am interested in this topic because it is one of the most interesting topics about multiple intelligences and because it has been assigned to us to report and discuss with the whole class, so that's why I chose to write multiple intelligences essay.
My first thought was that they eventually found out that you can't put all the students in one group. That many categories and intelligences determine how students think and learn. Multiple intelligences is a theory advanced by Dr. Howard Gardner. It is thought that intelligence is more than just an IQ test and that it can and should be measured in many different ways. Gardner talks about the many intelligences he invented, there are eight different types of intelligence. They are logical, linguistic, kinetic, musical, spatial, interpersonal, introspective, and naturalistic.
I feel that multiple intelligences are important to me as a future educator because it helps me better understand that all children think and learn differently. It also helped me realize that as a teacher, I should have more types of lesson plans because I will have students of different minds. Another element of this chapter that I also find very important is that it deals with different learning styles. He also talks about the different ways people react to situations that may indicate their position of control. Position control is cattributing success or failure to external factors.
After researching different types of intelligence, I discovered my top three strengths in eight different intelligence areas. These three forces are natural intelligence, language, and interpersonal communication. The first kind of intelligence I had was natural. I've always enjoyed spending time outdoors and learning about plants and weather. In addition, I am always sensitive to circumstances and the environment. Some of the happiest times of my life were when I lived in Glan, Saranggani when I was still 14 years old. I lived in a place that looked like an alien blue planet. I love the changing seasons, nature trails and teaching neighborhood kids about the beautiful forest creatures that surround us. My second type of intelligence is linguistic, and that doesn't surprise me either. As a child, I enjoyed reading my sister's books in her bedroom and writing stories about my life. At school, my favorite subject was always English. As a student, I prefer internal lessons to online lessons because I really enjoy listening to the lessons. My third type of intelligence is interpersonal. This makes perfect sense as a communications major. Although I am a shy person, I enjoy learning communication and working in small groups.
To sum up essay about multiple intelligence, multiple Intelligences is a fascinating theory that I really believe in. I have seen its benefits and intend to continue using it to help me grow and reach my full potential. I like Gardner's theory for a different reason, and I wholeheartedly believe that people can improve their intelligence, which traditional intelligence theory has dismissed as ideas.
