Physical Development In Middle Adulthood

Firstly, Jane is a 45-year-old Singapore born Chinese female who was parentified at a young age of 20-year-old. As her mother was critically ill, she had to quit studying and took on multiple jobs to support her siblings and her father. Furthermore, Jane struggled through her early adult years with the birth for her twin girls. The financial burden and responsibilities took a toll her body as she fell sick for a period. However, as she enters middle adulthood, she had the luxury to spend on herself and treat herself now and then because of her daughters’ financial reliance on her declines.

Although her visions started declining around the early forties, she invested in a progressive lens bifocals to hide the need for many spectacles. Going through middle adulthood, she consumes a low-fat, calorie-reduced diet and signs herself up for regular weight-bearing exercise classes to help reduce her body fats and the loss of lean muscle mass. All these lifestyle changes assisted her in feeling younger and healthier. On the other hand, Mary is a petite 52-year-old Myanmar born female who migrated alone to Singapore in the later part of her adolescence years in hopes of having a better life. After almost a decade of long working hours in the government hospital and volunteering in the society, she was granted Singapore citizenship in 2001. As she enters the middle adulthood phase, awareness towards the gradual change in her body increases due to aging processes and lifestyle choices. Mary has never worn bifocals until the age of 42 as variations in the eyes befell deterring the eye’s capability to concentrate on nearby distances. Facial creases and sagging, aging brown spots, and varicose veins continues emerging and are more distinct. The noticeable changes have made her feel less attractive in front of her friends and colleagues.

Also, insufficient sleep due to constant worrying has been an ongoing issue ever since the birth of her two boys in the early adulthood years, and she spends a considerable amount of time lying wide-awake in bed every night. Recently, Mary began experiencing symptoms leading to menopause. The degeneration in the circulation of estradiol, the primary hormone of estrogen, causes several variances in her reproductive health.
