Plot Summary Of A Raisin In The Sun By Lorraine Hansberry

In “Raisin in the Sun” the Youngers lived in a two bedroom apartment in Chicago. The main characters are: Betty, Travis, Mama, Walter, and Ruth. They were not poor but they weren’t rich either. The Younger family had enough just to make it. The decision on the new house was still active since Walter agreed.

When it comes to bright ideas and what you think is the best for your family you should think about the Younger family. One morning, Walter doesn’t want to go to work and Ruth was telling him what’s right. He finally gets up in a rage because Travis was thinking too long in the bathroom. Every morning Ruth makes sure that everyone in the household is getting ready for their day. They made a way for everything. Walter didn’t have money to buy a liquor store but he gave Travis money. They did enough to say well done.

All there ways was put up with in one house. One morning Mama was talking to Ruth about the check that suppose to be coming in from her husband’s death and Ruth just falls out. That’s when she finds out she is pregnant. She was second guessing about her bundle of joy because of the way they are living. Mama was loving and Ruth was caring. Walter was selfish and Travis was spoil. Betty was very smart in her own way. Everybody was acting crazy about the check.

Everybody had their own little problem going on in the movie. Betty was trying to get her love life going while she goes to college. Walter has another baby on the way but busy thinking about the liquor store, while Ruth don’t know what to do anymore. Mama continues praying for better days and keeping things in order. They stayed in a two bedroom apartment and they shared rooms. They had money for work reasons only. They had no time to waste so they had to work everyday.

Throughout the story the family all comes together at the end. The Youngers are overcoming their struggle. They started thinking about one another and started use long the money to protect everybody. Walter finally lets the thought of owning a liquor store go. Just seems like once you talk things out with your family it seems much better and goes very smoothly.
