Plot Summary: "The Rule Of Three" By Eric Walters
The novel “The Rule of Three” was written by Eric Walters, the main characters are Adam Daley, Herb Campbell, Lori Peterson, Todd, Adams mom, Adam’s twin brother & sister, and Mr & Mrs Peterson. It all starts when 16 year olds Adam and Todd are at school using a computer when all computer systems stop working. Only the oldest cars and airplanes work. Adam just happens to have one of these cars. Also him and his dad have been building an airplane because Adam was going for his pilot’s license. So they give Lori a ride home and then pick up the twins and go home. Adam’s mom is not yet home from her daily duty as a police officer and his dad (a pilot) had landed a fight and is now stuck in Chicago.
The next big thing that happens is a giant mob at the mall/grocery store but Adam’s mom, Adam and Herb manage to calm the mob down. And Herb has an idea to start a food distribution system that is put into work later that day. Herb is an old FBI agent who tells people he was a paper pusher for a government agency. Herb comes up with a plan to protect the town by using a patrol system. Adam takes Todd, Herb, Brett and his younger sister to Lori’s house to go horseback riding and Todd and Adam stay the night to help secure the perimeter of the farm. They stay on guard all night and around two o’clock in the morning some towns people come looking for water. They make a reasonable deal, no one gets hurt and the Petersons will supply them with water for as long as possible.
The next morning on the walk home (Herb took the car home last night) they spot an old Cessna and Adam says he’s going to try and finish the plane in his garage. Herb devices a plan to add more people to the patrol system. They are also going to go door to door and ask what everyone does as a job, this way they know what skills they have to protect the neighbourhood. Herb makes a plan to save 150 people of the 1600 person community but then Adam makes a plan to protect the whole 1600 person neighbourhood. Adam’s plan is to move the Petersons and all their valuables to the neighborhood, turn all the open land into cropland and build a giant wall to secure the community. Herb and Adam go to Peterson’s farm and Herb barely convinces them to come. They get all the supplies back to the neighborhood and then Adam finishes the plane, without permission he flies it over the neighbourhood. Half way through the fight he remembers he forgot to fill up the plane before he took off.
The second he lands he runs out of gas but doesn’t tell anyone, he fills it back up and is going to take Herb to do a flyover of the police station on the other side of the city. They find that it was attacked and overrun. They have no idea how safe they really are anymore. When they get back the whole neighbourhood meets to hear about Adam’s plan to protect the neighbourhood. They decide to go forward with the plan and start tilling the ground. Herb wants to bring in the car off the street for parts and gas. They are collecting car when an unknown mechanic show up, they invite him and his family into the neighbourhood because they are way short of mechanics. A patroller was shot and killed while on patrol. In the middle of the night a car drives by and the guards shoot them to death. Later the town leaders later find out that they were not a threat and it was just an elderly couple and their son. They play a movie and after Lori and Adam go for a long walk and at the end they kiss, twice.
As conditions worsen outside the town, the town council decides to try to make allies with a smaller neighbouring community. They arrange to meet halfway between the two towns, Herb and Adam seal the alliance with the leaders of the other community. A few days later they are on their way to a meeting by plane. They see the other plane again and follow it. They follow it all the way to it’s home base but are then forced back when shot at. The next night, late at night the allied neighborhood is attacked and defeated they got to the village and find an almost dead enemy soldier they nurse him back to life to question him. Adam and Herb are flying home from the attacked village when the Cessna attacks them. They fight it off and end up shooting it down. When Adam gets back he interrogates the prisoner and finds out that they are the next target.
Now that they know that they will soon be attacked the new plan is to strike first. The plan is that they will go to the enemy’s base and drop a whole bunch of homemade bombs. At the same time run in and take out as much of their army as they can. The plan works perfectly and Herb drops enough homemade bombs to take out half of their army. The second part of the plan is to attack the attackers. They are going to wait until the enemy is on the bridge on the way to Adams hometown and then when the moment is right they take out the bridge. The plan works perfectly and the whole enemy is killed in the bridge blowout. They are all safe for now.
