Policies Needed To Solve Food Problems

Have you ever had experiences to people who need a help? If so, what did you do for them? There are many types of helping others such as donating money, clothes, and hair, teaching subjects to someone who doesn’t understand clearly, recycling, collecting rubble for securities. If I work as a volunteer who help others, I want to give foods efficiently for people who don’t have enough them because I think nowadays some people cannot eat foods sufficiently because of finances or poverties. Moreover, I found that according to the Mainichi, over 820 million people across the world are said to be facing starvation. If they cannot eat foods for a long time, they may not live in comfort. And then, they might cause disease like undernutrition, so I want to avoid such a danger. In addition, according to the Mainichi, the global issue of food waste is a serious one, especially Japan. That’s why, I think solving food problems is one of the best things I can help for people who need a help now.

There are several benefits to establishing this policy. First of all, if this policy is conducted by people who help for others, they could help prevent emergencies like starvation and undernutrition because they can gain food using it, and then they are able to store much of nutrition so that the number of people who don’t have enough food will decrease. For example, providing rice to them is one of ideas. In the past, I had watched on TV that there were people who made meals for free to help others who were damaged by disasters. Therefore, I guess it is essential to help people with distributing food because of that reason. In addition to this, people all over the world will reduce food waste if this policy gets executed. For instance, an article in the Mainichi stated that “deliver excess to food banks to be consumed by people who are struggling to find enough food due to financial reasons” (the Mainichi, 2017). Besides, an article in NIKKEI ASIAN REVIEW described that “To reduce the amount of food returned to makers, Seven-Eleven in August will start accepting instant noodles up to halfway between production and expiration dates” (Hirashima, K. and Yao, T.,2019). In particular, I agree with the second one like reconsidering limitation of foods because I often see them when I go to the supermarket. I think many stores which deal with foods should adopt this measure like Seven-Eleven. If people who follow the following these ideas, they will cut food waste without throwing not be affected food problems.

Some people may object to this solution. I suppose they are afraid of much money due to making meals for free. Of course, that policy may be helpful for people who need a help. Nevertheless, if they continue making meals for free for many times, probably it costs too much, so they cannot plan this policy casually. Another objection that they may have is that there are some people who demand for food freshness. For example, an article in NIKKEI ASIAN REVIEW stated that “86% of respondents were willing to eat food after the best-before date” (Hirashima, K. and Yao, T.,2019). Certainly, I also imagine that japan tends to require fresh foods. That’s why, people don’t care greatly for food which are close to expiration dates. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to that person.

In conclusion, the problem of helping others can be improved if these policies are enforced. It can enrich people who need a help by solving food problems like making meals for them for free, cutting food waste.
