Possible Effects Of Offering Medical Insurance For Undocumented Immigrants
The topic of undocumented immigrants has been a long and lengthy subject for years. I do not see a solution being resolved anything soon since so many are still on opposites sides. It is sad to see human beings going through a difficult time once they reach the land of the free. Once they get here it is not a picture-perfect situation at all. They now have to deal with our political system. There have been stories after stories of people being sick and not being able to get any assistance, but then you also have the stories of people taking advantage of our system with medical, school and other benefits that they would never even get in their own country. We must also see what affects it might cause to our very own US citizens. Can our country continue to afford and cover every undocumented immigrant coming to the US? I believe not. Do we even really have the correct numbers of immigrants coming across the border? How can we have the correct numbers if we do not see them crossing over? It’s not like they check-in somewhere and registers to let the government know they are here.

So, what will happen if they do pass the law to let the states give all undocumented immigrant medical insurance and the numbers are incorrect? Will the US be prepared to give everyone medical insurance? Once that happens, I am sure there will be a rush of people coming into the U. S. seeking for aid. The other question is what will happen if they pass it and the amount of people is overwhelming and more than they had accounted for, what will happen then? There are so many pros and cons of undocumented immigrants entering the US. We need to take a better look at what we are doing and what needs to be done to either assistant them or send them back. We cannot take care of the world when we are not taking care of our own people.
The pros of offering undocumented immigrants Medicaid and other services and to keep them here in the US is something to think about. One is that undocumented immigrants pay taxes, sales taxes, Social Security, Medicare and workers’ compensation out of their payroll. Which is around tens of billions of dollars that go into the US economy. Second, by offering health coverage, there are public health benefits, that include and not limited to curbing the spread of infectious diseases like tuberculosis. The cases of tuberculosis are reportedly 15 times higher than US citizens. There is also a vaccine to prevent measles, which is also rising. Then you have sexually transmitted infections and HIV and many other diseases and illnesses. So, failure to extend medical can worsen immigrants’ diseases and other conditions if they only receive irregular treatments. So, these types of patients with drug-resistant pathogens are difficult to treat, requiring far more expensive antibiotics and medications. So, quicker discovery and response time to treat infectious diseases and other conditions make everyone else safer. Third, they also add to the workforce. They will fill many jobs rolls that many Americans will not do or are not willing to do; like manual labor or low-end jobs. These jobs get filled by immigrants that will pay their taxes while receiving their paychecks.

Since they are here to make a better life for their families, they will also be buying items that will also contribute to the local economy as well.
The cons on offering undocumented immigrants Medicaid, housing and other sources and one major issue is that they are taking money and resources from other programs that regular citizens born here in the US is losing because funds are having to be reallocated to cover resources, process, housing and everything else that the US has to do to cover for undocumented immigrants coming across illegally. With over 11 million immigrants here illegally will continue to divide Americans. This is also causing resentment from the people who lose out. That’s probably why so many people have issues with undocumented immigrants. Our land is no longer the land of the opportunity but the land of the entitlement. They come to the US expected and demanding that the US provides for them. If they come to the US through the proper channels, then Americans would not have any issues or animosity against them and our country wouldn’t have to spend so much money on them. If the money being used to cover all of this process was used instead to house all the homeless people in this country with a large majority of them being veterans that fought for our rights and freedom is going to undocumented immigrants. Then something is wrong with our system.
In conclusion, our government needs to get a better handle on what is going on and put their foot down. They need to make it harder for people just to walk onto our land and expected to get everything handed to them. If some of the people in the government cannot do their job, then they need to be replaced with someone else to get the job done. Building the wall is not the answer and it is not going to take care of the problem, because the problem is not the wall but what we allow them to do once they get across is the problem.
