Post Exam Self Reflection In Biology
Biology is GE class that I’ve tried to stay away from the beginning of college. My weakness is not good at English and having bad memory. therefore, to memorize the biological vocabulary or terms and its definition is really a big challenge for me. I like to learn about the natural world, animals living and how living things interact, but I lack confidence doing well in this course. My goal in this course is to learn and gain knowledge of world of biology ecology and experience the diverse natural world through field trips.
After the first exam, I am unhappy about the results I obtained in exam. I took time to memorize and get through the information from weekly LRQs. I tried to deepen my knowledge through these questions of this type of assignments. I know I will use those data from these LRQs to review lessons for the exams. It really helped me to synthesize and condense the knowledge that I have learned from the chapters. To prepare for the exams, I also have had the Activity Tracker to track the progress that help I reach the goal. I have spent about two more hours every two-days for self-learning and doing Biology homework and assignment. There were some points of lecture I cannot catch up in class. I had to re-read the PowerPoint slide and expand the knowledge on the internet to get through the lecture. I was not sure that my preparation was enough going into the exam. I am taking four courses for this semester, so I have to divide the appropriate time for each class. Actually, I spent time for Biology class quite a lot, because I am not confident understanding and memorizing all the information that my professor given out. I am aware that the lack of English proficiency makes me not understand all the lectures, leading to the difficulty of memorizing new biological vocabulary and its definition. I am not surprised that could affect my bad performance in the exam. For instance, when I read a definition or explanation, I knew what it was, but I really did not remember what the term is and vice versa. I know there are many obstacles I must remedy for better results at later exams. I certainly find ways to overcome these concerns. Besides that, I have to really understand the lessons, so I can remember it easily.
I will continue using LRQs to collect lessons information for exam review. Applying the detail daily to-do list is the way I develop the strategies of learning to manage the process of study more effectively. I will try going through all necessary readings and notes from various sources including lecture in class, slides in canvas, and the feedback from my professor. Managing effectively the time of study, work, and other activities in daily is constrained due of time pressure. I try to stick to my daily planner of studying and other activities, as they are connected. I want my effort to create more effective ways of learning and I will enhance the better result in next exams.
