Pro-life: The Meaning Behind A Murder

Abortion is a huge issue in our society today. Many people argue on the side of pro-choice because of things like a woman’s control over their own body, rape and instest cases, and health issues threatening either the mother or the unborn child’s life. I believe abortion is cruel and should be considered murder everywhere no matter the circumstance. New York passed a law last January of 2019 that stated abortion is now legal in that state up until the time of birth. That helpless baby is now a fully developed human being that is going to be killed just because the mother decided she doesn’t want them anymore. Statistics show that abortion can cause psychological damage and can lead to further medical problems in the once-bearing mother’s life, though.

Abortion is murder - there is no denying that. Older laws state that if a childbearing woman is murdered, it will be charged as a double homicide. So why would it be considered a double homicide if the unborn child is not a living being? There is absolutely no difference in a pregnant woman being murdered and the mother and doctor killing an innocent baby. Though abortion is illegal, the US government considers unborn babies to be a human. The Texas Penal Code (1.07) defines an individual as a human being who is alive, including an unborn child at every stage of gestation from fertilization until birth. The Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004 was set in place to protect unborn children from assault and murder. It is a law which recognizes a fetus in utero as a legal victim. The law defines a child in the uterus as a member of the species Homo sapiens, at any stage of development, who is carried in the womb. So again, why does the law not apply in this instance? Nobody can explain that other than using the argument of “women should have the right to choose what happens to and what is in their body.”

Abortion is a cruel and unusual punishment that the unborn children did nothing to deserve what is coming their way. In a botched abortion story based on the attempted abortion of the fetus of Melissa Ohden, she was told that the abortionist performing this surgery on her parental drained the amniotic fluid from the uterus and replaced it with a saline solution. They did this in hopes to burn her skin, incinerate her lungs and eventually end up stopping her heart all together. In another story based of off an agency nurse in Australia, a nurse shares what she had witnessed after an abortion had been performed. “I was on a ward one night when a woman had come in for an abortion. She was 22 weeks pregnant and had been told her baby had a chromosomal abnormality. I went into the sluice room and I saw the baby, a 22 week old baby boy, in a kidney dish in at the sink where all the clinical waste was flushed. He was small but he was perfect. You could see his toes, his hands, he seemed like he had blond hair. He was the full size of the kidney dish and he was alive. I could see the rise and fall of his chest, he was breathing,' she explains. These ‘clumps of cells’ are still living. This is murder.

Abortions have been proven to cause psychological damage. Luckily, the increasing number of outreach groups for women who have suffered the trauma of abortion demonstrates at least some women are seeking therapeutic help after abortion. Now, several large studies, relying on health and death records of hundreds of thousands of women, have found strong links between abortion and suicide and psychiatric admissions. These record-based surveys, in tandem with a number of smaller studies, support findings of psychological harm. Many women have came forward and claimed aborting their child caused them to fall into a deep depression. According to a study shown from 1987 to 1994 based on the death records of around 600,000 women, those who have aborted in the past year are six times more likely to commit suicide then a woman who gives birth. Many people would argue and say they didn’t have psychological issues at the time of and right after abortion, but studies show that their situations worsen even up to several decades later.

Abortion can also lead to future medical problems for the mother. In 2009, a study shows the US spent $1 Million on abortion aftermath problems. In 2015, the US spent $2 Million on the same problems. The numbers are just increasing as the years go on. Surgical abortion causes scar tissue in the uterus. Vacuum aspiration is associated with future miscarriages. The results of some studies done say breast cancer is directly connected to abortion. Of 213 million pregnancies that occur each year worldwide, 40% are unplanned. Of these, half end in abortion and half of those abortions are unsafe. That is 22 million, leading to 47,000 deaths from complications that follow.

In conclusion, I am very much pro-life because of three main reasons. I believe abortion is murder, can cause psychological problems, and health problems in the mother’s future. In the Declaration of Independence, the Founding Fathers wrote, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” All human life, born or unborn, are of high value. It is about time we all start to respect and protect that.
