Racial profiling or ethnic profiling is a form of discrimination by which law enforcement uses a person's race or cultural background as the primary reason to suspect that the individual has broken the law.

It can be disproportionate stop searches, traffic stops, and the use of surveillance technology for facial identification.

The most commonly identified impacts are:
loss of education and educational opportunities;
negative psychological impact;
increased criminalization of children often for conduct that does not threaten the safety of others; and
promotion of anti-social behaviours.
