Reading as Something That Changed Your Life
Reading to me is the process of immersing myself into a book and forgetting about the actual world, this is because a great book is one that has so much detail and one that invites you into the authors mind. Reading is important to me because it grants me the opportunity to distract myself from the real world and travel to my own where everything turns to fantasy. So that is why I am going to write about books and reading in this narrative essay about something that changed your life.
The Water Hole by Graeme Base was a book that tells the story of animals from all over the world. the Water Hole was my favourite book throughout my early childhood because it was the book that taught me to read. I have memories which are very fond to me where my mum was reading The Water Hole, to me and my siblings. The Water Hole changed my life because it was what made me the reader I am today. I still read before bed every night and whenever I get a chance. I previously went through our book cupboard and re-read The Water Hole, and it was almost like re-reading my prep to grade 1 years of school because I practiced reading on that book every day. The Waterhole is an ingenious amalgamation of counting book, puzzle book, storybook and art book. It takes the readers through an exhilarating journey of discovery, from the plains of Africa and the Jungles of the Amazon to the woodlands of North America and the deserts of outback Australia.
As I grew older, I developed my reading skills and started to read small novels like the Aussie Bite series, as they introduced me to chapter books. This was great for me, because I had a love for books that I didn’t recognise, and when I read, it was like I was completely relaxed, in my own place. Eventually, after reading chapter books, I came across the harry potter franchise/series, and those books were fantastic for young readers. Reading the harry potter franchise changed my life because it gave me something to look to doing each day (reading) and showed me how fortunate my life is, when compared to Harry Potter’s. The Harry Potter books changed my life in the way that it has made me an avid reader and for the first time, gave me a book that I just couldn’t put down.
In conclusion, reading shaped my life because of characters throughout the stories were inspirational and inspired me to be more like them. This shaped me a person because it has changed the way I talk, react and how my personality is. Reading shaped me as a learner because it largely improved my vocab, and exposed me to difficult examples of punctuation and grammar correction at a young age which led me to a correct path to success.
