Reading – The Best Way To Exercise Your Mind
Some people may work out to keep fit. Though, you should never forget to exercise your mind. How do we do that? By reading. Reading is a good skill to learn new vocabulary words and to enhance your reading. Success is doing the right thing consistently, reading will help you prepare you to be successful in life.
I attribute my love to two different instances. The first is a memory of my childhood. I’m on my bed with my mom around age 10, and my mom is reading to me Diary Of a Wimpy Kid. Diary of a wimpy kid is about an enjoyable experience for preteen Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) in middle school, but a hard obstacle that must take place. To do so, he plans schemes to win him the recognition and status he feels he deserves all of which fail miserably. Greg chronicles his misadventures, thoughts and opinions in a diary to prepare for the day that he will no longer have to put up with nonsense.
In addition, Diary of the wimpy kid was one of my favorite books as a child. This book was my favorite book in elementary school. The Diary of the Wimpy Kid movie was hilarious and is a must see. The suspense always kept me off of my feet.
The two other books I loved as a child was Captain Underpants. The pages of the book smelled like vanilla and almond. Captain underpants is about two boys George Beard and Harold Hutchins who are two imaginative pranksters who spend hours in a treehouse creating comic books. When their mean principal threatens to separate them into different classes, the mischievous boys accidentally hypnotize him into thinking that he’s a superhero named Captain Underpants. I loved this book as a child because the humor brought the book alive.
In middle school, my favorite novel was Harry Potter. I remember picking out this huge book at my school book fair. I also bought harry potter pencils and a poster at a time. Harry Potter is about a boy who attends Hogwarts School and performs magic. He also comes face to face with Lord Voldemort. I couldn’t wait to finish reading this book because there was a movie based on the book.
In high school I started to expand my vocabulary over time by reading books. To Kill A Mockingbird was my favorite. This novel is about civil rights and racism in the segregated Southern United States of the 1930s. The book is told by Scout Finch. Her father, Atticus Finch, an attorney who tries to prove an innocent black man who is accused of rape. Also, Boo Radley saves Scout and Jem. This book is my favorite book because it has a lot of suspense and it also has a movie to go along with it.
As a result of reading books over a period of time, a learning process is formed. There are a great many benefits to be gained from reading books. It is proven that in this technological society the demands for higher levels of literacy are creating unfavorable consequences for those who fall short. This is even more of reason to get into the habit of reading books, but with the cinema and television taking up a great deal of attention of children, teenagers and even adults, the habit of serious reading is dying out. My favorite books were Diary of the Wimpy Kid, Harry Potter and To Kill A Mockingbird. I loved all of these book because they all had movies to go with the book.
