Reflection On Archeological Visist To Catalhoyuk
I am archeologist. I am just arriving back in the United States after 2 years of being in Catalhoyuk, A very small ancient town where the first humans lived in towns. I am here to share and report to you my findings of artifacts.
As of being in Catalhoyuk, I have found many cool and different artifacts like obsidian rock, human remains, pottery, murals, figurines, worked bone, ground stone tools and many more different artifacts. One of the finds that I came upon among the first few days of my research was a plastered head with obsidian eyes. This finding has given up a look about what the people who first lived there looked like, along with around how long ago they were last there. The plastered head was set up on a wall and in order to be created it was first modeled, then plastered and painted, and then had obsidian eyes inserted in to it. This small town has given information to us regarding how the first humans decided to settle in towns and how they lived and survived with what they had back then. Catalhoyuk is named as one of the oldest towns dating all the way back to 7500 BC which means a lot of the artifacts are extremely old. Upon researching another one of my big findings was worked bone. Bone was an important raw material and was worked into pendants, rings and needles along with other tools that they used.
There were also many different figurines of which were made from clay often showing men and woman and occasionally animals. Another important find were animal bones. The animal bones were important because the people of Catalhoyuk were the first of many to live with domestic animals. The animals they lived with included sheep, goat, pigs and cows. The people also hunted the animals and skinned them which led to us finding many skeletal remains of animals. Not only did the skeletal remains show us what animals were there, but it shows what animals they hunted and also gives insight to time they were there. Mural paintings were also found and are known to be the oldest in the world when it comes to man built structures.
The murals showed animals and humans and were really crazy looking as to what was put on the murals. The murals are on the inside walls of the structure there and catalhoyuk is known to be as big as 50 soccer fields.
During my time there I have stumbled upon many cool artifacts and will never forget the small town as for it was so unique. It is very cool and nice to know of what was there long ago before we evolved as to it shows how we have inherited some of their skill. I sure hope that I get to go back one day to research more and I also hope that I can discover more artifacts because it was really amazing.
