Reflection On Contract Law Module Assignment

On the 25th of February I have been given a group work task by my contract law module teacher which consisted on drafting a contract for our client Mr. Pawel Poliszak to present it to the other party. Our group was formed to complete an assignment where we have been given a relevant template on which we had to add, remove or amend terms accordingly to provide the best recommendations and strategies for our client.

As in today’s work culture and dynamic environment, educational institutions and organizations require students and employees to work together in groups at certain tolerant and cooperative levels. Personally I believe that group work is the best opportunity not only to share different opinion’s and point of views but also to challenge my own skills and knowledge and my ability to interact and develop a relationship with other students with which I never talked before.

At the initial stage, as in every group work, the first challenge that we had to face was to organise the work, divide the tasks, assign these parts to each member and to decide the convenor of the group. A key element was also the fact that we set up a time line within which we had to complete the task on time.

My role was to bring amendments to the number of acceptable counterparts, third party rights and notices clause so that it is “effective upon delivery” and that the delivery is must evidenced in a provable manner.

My work was fully supported by the lecture materials and legislation. The main aim for the contract was to ensure that our client had his best interests in regards to the purchase of the “Phatz” trademark, and to go through the contract without any issues, obstacles, loss and damages. Among my tasks the point on which I mainly focused was the notices clause. I brought amendments on this part carefully specially for the time that we have spent in lectures and seminars on the topic of postal rule presumption and its importance. Hence this was a great chance for me to put in practice my knowledge on this topic and how it can effect business parties.

As a group we have done the work in less time than we thought, this because each member contributed to the assessment all together, efficiently, by helping each other without any disputes. Our goal was to produce as many ideas as possible and put on effect them where relevant. This showed how in future we need to accomplish certain goals as a team at work within the given time. Team work was definitely one of the most challenging aspects of this project. As a result we managed to achieve a great outcome by enhancing our knowledge, competencies and empowering the group as a whole. At the end of the assessment, what matter to me the most is what I’ve learnt from group work experiences, how I experienced contract law in practice, and how I cropped up situations and handling the pressure and exceptions.
