Reflection On Global Online Workforce Program In Malaysia
On September 24, 2018, I attended a seminar on e-rezeki (GLOW) organized by the MDec. Encik Muhd Ihsanuddin Jamhari was the person involved in giving a seminar on that day. He is a master trainer for GLOW and he is also a full time freelancer. MDec is a digital economic platform that widely used by Malaysians, but some people do not know that MDec also has other alternatives to get money. The main focus of the MDec program is divided into two, e-usahawan and e-rezeki. E-usahawan is a program that will teach us techniques of selling and buying online and teaching us the design to make promotions for the products we sell. She explains GLOW is a rebranding for e-sustenance to avoid the confusion of the public. GLOW comprises the word Global Online Workforce.
GLOW is one of the government's initiatives to Malaysians to create a career by using the Internet as a platform to gain income. The GLOW program is one of the ways in which the program is organized by MDEC, a government agency under Malaysia's Ministry of Communications and Multimedia.
GLOW is a digital income-generating program for Malaysians via 'crowdsourcing'. "Crowdsourcing" means digital revenue generation where work is offered and implemented digitally on a global platform. The eRezeki participants will be matched with digital work in line with their respective skills. E-livelihoods focus on small work done by local people and will help the community to advance their business internationally. After that, e-sustenance uses the concept of "sharing economy" as a platform for business. For example, Jeff Bazos owns the Amazon and is also one of the richest people in the world who use the concept of "sharing economy". This concept is one of the most effective techniques because we can share our products with the public and this concept also introduces the "stuff to skills" technique. the closest examples we can take in Malaysia are Lazada and Shopee, these two platforms are widely used by people to do business online. The benefits of this program are an alternative job opportunity for Malaysians who have the skills and GLOW will teach us how to "sell" the skills we have.
Additionally, people need to be involved in the program because of the opportunity to generate digital income on a monthly basis. Furthermore, the flexibility of performing digital jobs anywhere at any time and has the opportunity to open a digital job agency business. The question is, who should be involved in this program? The criteria for selecting GLOW participants generally have the qualifications or skills in technology.
Experienced digital workers with qualifications and skills are very welcome to participate in the program. IT skills, graphic and linguistic designs are an advantage for applicants who want to join the GLOW. GLOW also accepts the participation of students from skilled IPTA and IPTS, so it is a good thing for all students who want to generate income while studying. GLOW also accepts freelancers who can work offline and face to face. We can conclude that digital skills are a high demand in the current job market.
The impact of this GLOW program on Malaysians can provide a lot of benefits. This is because unemployment rates among university graduates can be reduced. Furthermore, this program can provide opportunities for all societies to further enhance their skills internationally or within Malaysia. Hence, GLOW has organized many courses to the public. For example, the GLOW @ HLI's program and the free fast track program. The advantages of this course are individual mentoring sessions and online monitoring and can be a member of the Malaysian Freelance Association (MAFA). Furthermore, the national economy can also be strengthened and expanded further with the existence of this skilled freelancer. As a student I am interested in joining this program because, this program is able to give me an experience and opportunity to highlight my IT skills. Additionally, the program can be a platform for me to share ideas with the kliens and learn something new from them. This program is able to improve my skills to do work at a time, for example I can work while studying.
Finally, I hope the MDEC can organize many programs like this to help our people to change their lives. I also hope MDEC is able to extend this kind of program to more frequent social media and mass media to attract people to participate in such programs.
