Reflection On Visiting The Perez Art Museum In Miami

One of the most beautiful art forms I saw when I went to the Perez Art Museum in Miami was the titled “fire” and was made by Teresita Fernandez. Ms. Fernandez lives in New York and crated this huge art work form glazed ceramics. At first, glance, as I enter the second floor I see this huge shiny art work. My first instinct was to look at the fire which is the main focus of the art work. The yellow, orange and red seemed so real to my eyes. The first thing I asked to myself was how in earth did someone create art using small bits of glossy ceramic, first of all, this piece was pretty huge and it seemed like it took time to make.

Ms. Fernandez is an inspiration, using glossy ceramics was an amazing idea to depict the fire, it looked so real. As I got closer to Ms. Fernandez art work I noticed the small tiles of ceramics. Each and very little tile had a tint of either black orange or yellow. My first though was how did anyone think of such a thing. I have only seen tiles like this in bathrooms and maybe in churches but none of them depicted a large fire. As I read the information on the piece creates by Teresita Fernandez I realize why she chose fire. Fire cleans and purifies, it is a strong natural force. Nature is beautifying and even at its most harmful it demonstrates a purpose in life. The fire on the glossy tiles meant the fire in the landscape of America and how it had to repair itself from us, humanity. As I stroll around the PAMM museum I notice a very Christian related art work. It is made by Esterio Segura titles “Mover el Cielo con el alma” or moving the sky with my soul. Segura is a Cuban based artists.

At first glance my mind goes straight to Christianity since I see a male figure, upper body, with the arms extended out, kind of like Jesus Christ in the Cross. The interesting part is the three windmills I see. The windmills seem like a paper drawn material and they are spread horizontally against the canvas. The middle windmill is actually replacing the head of the Jesus Christ-like figure. As I read what the art means I stat to understand. We as humans are capable of anything, we can move the sky with our souls. Humanity is a powerful entity. Most people don’t have faith in themselves and this is what this art piece wants the viewer to understand. With faith in ourselves, we can do anything.

Lucio Pozzi’s, painting to order #9, is one of the artworks I disliked from the PAMM museum. I understand and appreciate all art works. Some I don’t appreciate as much. Lucio Pozzi is an artist from New York, many artists actually from the PAMM museum are from New York. This specific art work didn’t attract me much since it looked like the four primary colors for Google. As soon as I saw this artwork I thought about Google, the search engine, and I thought it was a weird mix.

The artwork is four tiles of wood, one red, one blue, red and green. The primary colors were okay in the sense that they were bright but I didn’t like the fact that the art work made me think of my 2018 search engine, maybe to other viewers, the art work is appealing.

The museum exhibition the day I went was more of a pop art culture. Most of the art works I went to see at PAMM where from New York. I found the minimalistic exhibit interesting. Sol LeWitt art work titled “Open Cube” (New York) was a very minimalistic art form since it was a white line sculpture that resembled a box, an open box. The theme of the exhibit was New York and how fun and artful art can be. Sol LeWitt work of art, open cube, from New York was one of the most important in the exhibit, at least for me it was. The art describes one of the most popular forms of art in Ney York. I am a computer major and appreciate the art of minimalistic, that is why this piece is very appealing to my eyes. I never knew New York had such fun art and yet keep it simple. I wish one day I could travel to New York and explore more art pieces myself. If I could take home any piece from the museum it would definitely be the Mel Bochner (from Pittsburgh, New York), Dead reckoning. Bochner has a very intricate piece. In the begging when I first met the piece I saw various lines on the canvas. These lines of grey depicted a rock as a form in the center of the piece, followed by muted, dull colors around the rock. The geometric shape made me think of mountains and earth. I would love to take this piece of art home to stare at all day. I would kill to have such a beautiful art form in my living room one day to look at.
