Report On Personality Self-Assessment
Introduction
This is to identify my skills, personal values and attitudes in order to have an understanding about myself. Also, using different personality tests can help assess my personality to select my career.
Personal values and attitudes
According to Rokeach Milton: The Nature of Human Values, terminal values refer to the most desirable goals that a person would like to achieve during their lifetime, meanwhile, instrumental values are the conducts or means to achieve terminal values. For me, my terminal values are attaining family security. Being forgiving and responsible, keeping harmonious relationship at home are essential instrumental values to access family security. I care about all my loved ones, so I learnt to forgive. As living in a small space, arguments are always there, for instance, my brother borrows my stationery and never gives back to me, in the course of time, I will not get mad at my brother, but to remind him or buy stationery which he lacks of. Other than that, I share the household chores in order to be responsible and fair to my family, because not only mother need to do housework but also us. Attaining happiness is also one of my terminal values. To me, time and money need to spend in the right thing and to right people.
Personality of myself
I have used Myers-Briggs Type Indicators (MBTI) developed by Katherine Briggs(mother) and Isabel Myers(daughter) 1940s, for assessing my strength of preferences and personalities. It has four opposite pairs of dichotomies which are “Extravert”(E), “Introvert”(I); “Sensing”(S), “Intuitive”(I); “Thinking”(T), “Feeling”(F); “Judging”(J), “Perceiving”(P), combine and provide sixteen types of personalities. I am “ISFJ”-protector. Introvert people always think twice before act and want time to stay alone. In “ISFJ”, particularly I score high in “S”, “F”, “J”. Sensing people perceive information with the five senses, always trust experience and actual data. Feeling people make decisions from the point of view of others, they care about the harmony, so others’ feelings are important. Judging people always go with plans, they like things being organized and scheduled. Also, they have high sense of duty and very strong work ethic, anything will break the law is not allowed. “ISFJ” are quiet but have robust social relationships with few friends, as they remember how people treat them, they value stable and long-term relationships. For me, I have few but most precious friends, we met at secondary schools, because I am quiet, so at the University, I just make some hi-bye friends. “ISFJ” like situations and rules to be constant, they do not like much changes. In my secondary school, my elective is Accounting, it needs to memorize the formula and format, I like to do many exercises on it. analytic abilities.
Skills I have
According to Oxford English Dictionary, skill is an ability to do something well and expertise on it. For my major past achievement, I have involved The 7th Yuen Long Student Ambassador Scheme. It’s goals are to serve the community and enhance a sense of belongings to the community. I remember that our chosen topic is “Minorities”, which means we need to organize different activities for the minorities to join, let them blend into society.
First, I was assigned to be the leader of the team, suggesting that we need to organized events that could allow families to join, like cooking class and booth games. In the communication process, my groupmates had different ideas, then I tried to merge their ideas together and told them what were not necessary, we all work well to construct better teamwork. After that, we gave a complete planning about distribution of works and coordinated all the resources to be used. Finally, we implemented the plans. Other than problem-solving skills, human relations skills and organizational skills, I had also performed the research skills.
Second, it is a problem that I did not contact any minorities before, I knew nothing of their cultures and taboos, therefore I did lots of research relate to them, for examples, Muslims do not eat pork as it is impure, they can eat halal food, so, we could avoid food containing pork in our cooking class. At the closing ceremony, our team got the Most Improved Student Award.
For my most of the hard skills and soft skills, they can be shown from my work experience. I work at Wastons as shop assistant, performing cashier and seller role. I learn to use cash register machine and use computer to print out price tags. Also when selling a product to customers, I will ask for the needs of them and recommend suitable product, with mentioning about the advantages or the reviews of other customers, that can be more persuasive.
