Research Design And Its Main Types

Research design is said to be the method, given by any researcher to eliminate or overcome and any kind of confliction and sort the element in a decent way to be understood easily in the research.

There are typically two types of researches:

  • Qualitative researches.
  • Quantitative researches.

Qualitative researches are subjected to providing data in numerical mean. However quantitative researches on the other hand tend to observe the traffic on the actual field by means of naturalistic settings.

There are four major types of research design in the knowledge:

  • Survey: survey research is used to accumulate information by putting on questions through any mean, whether online, phone or personally. This type is basically used to know more about someone’s views and thoughts about the subject. As an advantage of survey, a wide range of data can be collected from different sources. Also, Surveyors usually get to choose diversity among the audience for different views on the notion. But on the other hand, the survey could cost you a lot of money and will burn enormous about of time.
  • Observation: the studies in which we are to determine all the factor typically effects about the subject along with the consequences is called observation research. Sometime, there are no alternative to conduct a research but making observation is the only choice. Observation can help researcher exploring new horizons of the subject however it can not as accurate as it should be, we tend to make myriad of assumption in this kind of research. Along with that it takes years of experience to observe someone or something with wide about of data collection and knowledge.
  • Experiments: the method of research by manipulation and testing the subject to differentiate as well as understand someone’s behavior on something is Experimental research design. As a result, the method gives you very precise results in very short time directly and researcher get to know usual behavior of the victim/subject. But there could be some long-term fatal consequences when experiments go wrong, particularly in any Science though, that could affect the subject in not a very way.
  • Existing sources: taking the existing or secondary sources that belong to someone else related to research as a reference to execute or to persist on the research can be defined as Existing sources of method of research.

However, the main focus of research is not to find something utterly new but to find something missing from the chain. This method typically saves you time as well as money and give you access to explore the history of research which might give your research a new turn. Although you cannot entirely rely on a secondary source of data unless it is verified by someone. The information provided might be inappropriate or irrelevant to the studies that researchers have been doing. In my opinion the most reliable and commonly used research method is the experiments. As it has been witnessed from the past that outcome of very prominent researches has always been reasonable where the research methods were Experiments(particularly in science) and the researcher is always relying on its self rather than depending on someone else’s data. The researchers get to know almost everything when he jumps down to experiment for research. On the other hand, using secondary sources subjected to Existing sources method is the least prominent and unreliable method of research design since relying on some unverified data could have disaster consequences eventually in the research.

Finally, if I were to choose any research design method to conduct a research, I will be going with experiment research method, since I have mentioned earlier that this is the most reliable method in my opinion. I believe that researcher have great control over the factors to get desired results.
