Research Methodology

Cleanliness is one of the main important factors for physical well-being and living in a healthy environment. Most religions encourage people to maintain cleanliness in their environment. For example, in Islam, it is well touaght by Prophet Mohammed that who believe in God, has to be clean (Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed, narated by Tarmathi). Therefore, do you agree that littering is a type of action that contradicts those beliefs of cleanliness? Unfortunately, in the present world, people aren't fully aware of the negative impacts that littering has on the economy and view of the country, on the environment, and on people's health.

All of the developed countries in the world are almost spotless. While you can see in the less developed countries, they don't really focus on keeping their country clean and tidy. The economy of a country depends on many things, and one of them is tourism. Usually, tourists enjoy traveling to countries that they feel comfortable and safe in, and significantly, they travel to countries that pleases their eyes. So, if the country is clean and nice to view, more tourists will be visiting it. Therefore, the economy of that country would definitely rise. In addition to that, investors will be targeting those countries to invest in, by developing new projects that serves the tourism field in that particular country, as they have high economy and tourism. So, littering will ruin and will destroy the country’s economy, by neither getting the tourism nor the investments needed for the country’s economy and development. As well as the country will eventually have to spend and reserve a huge budget to arrange just for cleaning the litter that people throw on the streets, on beaches, in parks, etc…For example, USA spends 11.5 billion dollars annually just to clean the litter thrown (trường), in Singapore litter cleaning costs 87 million dollars each year (McDonald), and in Manila in the Philippines, cleaning litter costs 130 million dollars annually ('This Is Why Philippines Is World’S Third-Largest Ocean Plastic Polluter'). One of the solutions for eliminating litter can be that the government of that specific country restricts the action of throwing litter, and to take fines from people which does this action. We have to take action! I repeat it people, we have to take action!

Sometimes people take actions towards the environment without realizing the amount of damage they cause to it. Littering is one of the worst activities that someone does towards the environment. Therefore, spreading awareness about this issue can make a huge difference in the amount of problems that our environment is suffering from, like pollution that is caused from littering. Pollution caused by littering can affect the environment in many ways. First, littering can cause pollution in the air, if the way of getting rid of it is by burning it, which releases huge amounts of hazardous impure substances and gasses in the atmosphere (Nag). Moreover, littering can also cause pollution in soil and water, by the chemicals that are drawn out of the litter that reaches soils and water bodies and will eventually pollute it, also it can reach us, humans, by the food chain (Nag). As a final result, it will affect human health and all living things in this environment. We have to fight to litter! I repeat and confirm, we have to fight littering! Although there are some people that don't obey this concept, consider littering as a normal thing, and don't realize the negative impacts that it has on many things, we have to continue fighting for this cause, and stop it from occurring.

Can you imagine losing your health due to your carelessness? Do you want to destroy your own self? Have you ever thought about the consequences of losing your health? Just imagine that happening, visualize yourself sitting ill, and injured on a hospital bed, doing nothing but waiting for your health to come back again. If you think about it, you'll for sure choose going clean, without causing any litter. Littering produces several diseases such as tetanus, skin diseases, salmonellosis, and many more ('Department Of Health | 2 Rubbish And Disease'). The main reason for the existence of these diseases is the transfer of bacteria and harmful species that trash creates, thus animals might eat this trash and then act as carriers for deadly diseases that can make people sick, as some individuals live with animals. Litter can also lead to bloody injuries from sharp materials such as needles, and spiky knives that you can find thrown in a random public location ('Causes, Problems And Solutions Of Littering'). Moreover, many people who smoke throw their cigarette butts on the floor, this can cause a fire in some situations like if it happened in a forest, or near any places having flammable items, and it will lead to a fire being born, that might even kill some people that were available in the same area ('Causes, Problems And Solutions Of Littering').

As a conclusion, littering is going to cause many global problems around all countries, if it still existed and people practiced doing it. It leads to a lower economy, lower health, and a bad environment for all living things around this world. All mankind should stop littering, as it leads to a bad life through many ways possible. People should be aware of all the bad and dangerous impacts that littering can cause, like pollution, health issues, and a less developed country. I think that together we can stop this from happening, and we can stop a struggle that will eventually happen to our lives in the upcoming future.
