Retail Scan Assignment Report: Subway Shop
Purpose of the assignment is to understand the marketing environment, conduct research and visit the high retail store or a restaurant. This also includes summarizing the experience gathered and make a report. I have visited the Subway which is located inside the building of Royal Victoria Hospital on 28th, Sept 2018 at 4 pm.
Overview of research
The owner of this subway is M. Jhanak Patel, started his retailing shop in the year 2011. He believed that serving people is a good thought but to serve a needy it is the best. This belief made him to open Subway in the hospital where he keeps it open for 24 hours so that any patient or doctor need to have food or drinks they get it easily. According to our research there are no other shops open during night beside there is Druxy, Tim Horton, Jugo Juice and Gion’s Pizza. The Subway is seen quite busy on weekdays and they have a sale of about $15000 average every week. Since the Subway is 24 hours open, there are 10 employs and 2 are being trained, so in total there are 12 people working in Subway. Out of which 2 are females and rest are males among which 8 are students studying in Georgian College. The owner have 10 Subway which are located in different provinces of Canada. Since the owner is not living in Barrie, the Subway is handled by Mr. Hiren Patel and assistant manager is Mr. Jinal Patel. One of his other Subway is located in Georgian Mall which is also quite busy Subway of Barrie. The retailer main product is the food; subs, soups, pizza and wraps.
Marketing Environment
Competitive Factor: The Subway of RVH sells subs, pizza, drinks and wraps similarly, the other retailers sells some of their things. The main competitors are Druxy and Juco Juice who sells subs and drinks like Subway. The other competitor is Gion’s Pizza as Subway sells pizza and they are the pizza retailer this affects the pizza market of Subway.
Regulatory Factor: Under the criteria of regulatory factor, I could just find that they do not sell personal information to anyone else who is visiting except the authorities of Subway or RVH. The also follow all the rules and regulations of Subway.
Economic Factor: Since the Subway is considered as the busiest Subway of Barrie, the economic factor is quite good. They have very good purchasing power who daily gets over $1500 and every week brings lot of delivery. They got their own house and private cars and also have private share this indicates that they are wealthy. Social Factor: People working in Subway are quite socially active and try to help the needy ones. I have quite often seen unlike other food shops, if customer didn’t have money they still serve them but other don’t do like this. Even they personally go and provide subs to hospitalized people without charging and, they stop their work to serve people. All the employs are fair, trustworthy and family-oriented. Technology Factor: There is no any technology factor involved in it as they do not have any innovative food except what subway provides.
Conclusion
The retailing shop is not part of market as the they neither do advertisement nor they have any promotional offers. They carry their own business by providing food with either cash or card neither they accept coupons of subway which others do. I came to know that they are carrying their business without being in the market as they do not have to compete with other subway for selling their product or for improving their economy. The thing which makes them different is the cleanliness. While I was conducting survey, an inspector came for inspection and scored 10 for them on the sheet whereas he gave 7-8 for other.
I do have few recommendations for them specially for the employers working at night. While surveying I met few people and had some discussion with them and got to know that during night service is slow and breads are not properly toasted. So, I suggest them to make sure that service at night is fast and also they should provide proper service during night.
