Review Of All Good Things: A Jack Hart Mystery By Rosemary Reeve

All Good Things: A Jack Hart Mystery by Rosemary Reeve is a suspenseful, action-packed mystery. Jack Hart is an associate at a prestigious law firm in Seattle. He has a warm friendship with (and secret crush on) his coworker, Harmony. When her dad (who is a partner in the law firm) is found murdered, she is one of several suspects. Jack refuses to believe she could be involved. But when the police learn she is missing, Jack is determined to find his friend and clear her name. He is drawn into the investigation by Detective Mark, who happens to be a former foster brother. As the mystery thickens and more bodies are found, Jack discovers and decodes clues, which put his own life in danger. Along the way, Jack learns about the history of his firm and discovers the politics and conniving personalities of the law firm personnel. He quickly learns that anyone could be a suspect. He untangles the web of working relationships and his coworkers’ ulterior motives.

Throughout the course of this complex mystery, Jack learns to come to terms with his complicated family past, as well as breaking down the barriers with his untrusting dog companion, Betsy. He is pressed to work though his own issues and put his life on a new course. Jack is a fiercely loyal friend who will stop at nothing to find Harmony and unravel the mystery of her disappearance. This story is captivating and intense from beginning to end. The use of descriptive language helps the reader visualize the story’s events. The character development keeps the reader wondering what happened in the past as well as anticipating what will happen in the future. The intermingling plot lines and the dropping of clues keep the reader engaged throughout the book. The author peppers in clues and backstories throughout the novel. I appreciate how the author wraps the complex case up in the end, connecting all the dots to bring closure to the reader.

There is not much that I disliked about the book. There was only one minor element to the story that was unresolved, but it didn’t take away from the story’s completion. If anything, it added to the dimension of who Jack was as a person: somewhat together but a little scattered. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars . This book was a fast, easy read. The characters had depth and complexity. There were a few side stories that intertwined, adding to story’s depth and suspense. This book was edited well. There was not much to dislike about the characters or the storyline itself, thus I couldn’t rate it lower. Mystery lovers, as well as those interested in legal services and law enforcement, would find this book appealing.
