Review Of The Article “Care For Child Development: An Intervention In Support Of Responsive Caregiving And Early Child Development”
The major research question being studied is how caregiving to children can affect the development in children, and their ability to succeed in life to become the best, and most positive version of themselves that they can be. According to this article, “an estimated 43% of children younger than 5 years of age are at elevated risk of failing to achieve their human potential. ” One of the hypotheses that were tested was by seeing how resources can affect the potential of students, by making the availability of education more possible, encouraging children to reach their potential. A diagram is given to give light on how communication, and interaction with your developing child is crucial in these stages of child brain development.
Researchers used different factors in their research, such as statistics from, high and low income families, the type of care given to children, the resources around the child. The main references being stated in the article have to do with child interactions and health, enjoyable activities that give the child comfort and love. Also things like nutritional development in the early stages of life that are important to stimulation of the brain.
The method being used by the researchers was using studies done on the growing mind of young children, and what will and will not stimulate the brain in positive or negative ways. Since there are millions of children in the country the studies that can be done on them is pretty limitless, making information on the topic easily accessible. The participants of the study were different children in their most active stages of brain development in different positions, ones with the proper requirements in order to develop healthy, and others who develop with some type of disfunction or disability that does not allow them to progress above those with the proper attention given.
Depending on the child, some of them were given everything needed such as resources, attention, communication and nourishment, others were not given the same aid, and the difference in performance between the two is very distinguishable. Researchers who looked into the subject were probably able to find many studies done on child development because the topic can be so diverse since there are many variables that can affect child development. The findings done came to the conclusion that there are many things that play a role in the development in children, mentally and their capacity to learn, children need to be put in an environment that will give them the attention, and interaction needed to absorb as much as they can in this time where the brain is like a sponge, intaking all the knowledge being exposed to it.
What i learned about the human psychology is that brain development is best done at the early stage in life because the mind is at its strongest, trying to pick up as much information as it can, evolving much quicker than that of an already grown brain. The potential of the brain under the right conditions are near infinite if you allow it. Some of the more practical implications of the study is that the environment that the child is being surrounded with, obviously people would assume that children who are introduced to more resources, a healthier mental and physical lifestyle will have a more direct path to success over a child who has to overcome any disabilities, or any boundaries in between them and the environment that surrounds them.
My impression of the article is that it is very heavily based off statistics, a first person insight would give more depth into the difficulties that can be faced with child development. Mental growth in children is done with positive interactions between them and the community around them, at the end of the day motivation from the individual themself is one of the key factors since some can be put in the right conditions and still not be on on par with others who were not put in the right conditions to excel.
