Review Of The Film 'The Lovely Bones'
The Lovely Bones is a supernatural drama film that was released on December 26th, 2009. The movie is based on the 2002 novel of the same name by Alice Seabold, based in Norristown, Pennsylvania, 1973.
The film was directed by Peter Jackson. He was born in New Zealand, on October 31st, 1961. He is mostly known for directing “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and “The Hobbit” trilogy. His career began in 1987 and is still running.
I personally believe that Saoirse Ronan’s work in the film was outstanding. She had an amazing performance, portrayal, and execution of our beloved Susie Salmon. I may also add that she was only 13 years old by the time the movie was being filmed. Her emotions are perfectly transmitted, and they hit you dearly. She was made for this role. Mark Wahlberg plays the role of Susie’s father, Jack Salmon. Rachel Weisz is Abigail Salmon, Susie’s mother. Rose McIver plays Lindsay Salmon, Susie’s younger sister. Susan Sarandon as Grandma Lynn. And last but not least we have Christian Thomas Ashdale as Buckley Salmon, the youngest. These amazing actors did a fascinating job in portraying Susie’s grieving family, great job in the film.
Susie Salmon was only 14 years old when she was murdered on December 6th, 1973 by her neighbor Mr. Harvey when he lures her into an underground room. Once in the purgatory, Susie must choose between getting revenge from the man who took her life or move on to heaven. She sees her family cope with her death and try to find the responsible. Everything changes when Harvey decides to target Susie’s younger sister, Lindsay.
The way the script was written is very particular. I believe it could be hard to understand if you aren’t paying attention. Regardless, it’s beautifully developed and projected. Everything production wise was on point and helps this amazing movie be what it is. Without all the scenery, makeup, lightning, setting, production, CGI, special effects, cast, and production this movie would be very different. It affects the plot because you need to see the differences between the purgatory and Earth to really appreciate the movie as a whole. The job was amazing, and it looks great, considering it was released 9 years ago.
When I first watched this movie, I was in my grandfather’s house with my mom. We were bored and decided we wanted to watch a movie. While she was checking her list, she saw this movie in it. She started playing it and I was intrigued from the start. I couldn’t stop watching and was in complete awe. I really wanted to watch it once again as soon as it finished. I remember I cried a river. After watching it a couple more times I decided it was my favorite movie. To this day I can’t watch it without crying. This movie is so important and should be more talked about. It presents the topic of a serial killer who only kills woman, the youngest one being only 6 years old. This topic is very serious and very real, too. In the end, justice isn’t obtained properly, unfortunately. Susie’s body is never found, and Harvey manages to get away even tough he dies at the end. It’s heartbreaking for me to say that this is real, justice isn’t always served. The Salmon family ended in a good note and Susie could finally ascend to heaven after reaching acceptance. I love everything about this movie and will never get tired of it. I wish “Lovely Bones” was better known so other could appreciate this masterpiece.
