Review Of The Film Tsotsi
Tsotsi a film with deep emotional power considers a young man with cold eyes that shows no emotions who kills just because he wants to. The young killer changed from decency to redemption by the helplessness of a baby. Tsotsi didn’t mean to kidnap a baby but know that he has the baby look at him with trust and deed and he is powerless before eyes more demanding than his own. This is a rated film because it contains violent scenes as well as bad language.
In this film actors are seeking Zulu, Xhosa and Afrikaans, and is subtitled in English. The film is taken in a town ship outside Johannesburg which is located in South Africa. Tsotsi Presley Chweneyagae leads a small gang of his criminal friends who are willing to kill in order to steal money. Tsetse had an argument with one of his criminal friends Boston Mothusi Mangano Boston is the intelligent one of the group the reason being he is able to read and write after being kicked out of college for allegedly raping a girl. Boston shows an understanding of apartheid and life in general affecting them all a wisdom that the rest of the groups lacks at. Boston confronted Tsotsi about his lack of decency.
Tsotsi got displeased with Boston and walked away. As Tsotsi was walking he saw a ritch black African women standing at the gate calling her husband to open the gate for her. Tsotsi saw this as an opportunity to carjack the women. He drives off with her car after shooting her in her, but everything changed for Tsotsi after hearing little sounds coming from the back seat. Before Tsotsi could stop the car he saw a baby sitting in the back set. Tsotsi dint expect this to happen and new that he couldn’t leave the baby. When Tsotsi released that solid food isn’t a option for a baby, he forces a woman at gunpoint to nurse the baby. Tsotsi made decisions that he have never imagined making and leads him to confront not only whats right but also buries pain from his past. Tsotsi is a criminal with no hope for his future. Tsotsi started to think about little things his life and begins to change.
This film shows us how a person can change from decency to redemption. This is not the first film dealing with issues in South Africa but one of the best. This film is entertaining and has very valuable lessons to learn from. But this does not surprise me because Tsotsi won the academy award in 2006. The young actors Presley Chweneyagae and Terry Pheto and director Gawin Wood received the Oscar for the best foreign film at the oscars award in Hollywood.
