Review Of The Film Weighed But Found Wanting
The movie just touched my heart. It is a drama that involves serious social issues for the society. It showed us a number of imperfections our country have. As I watch the film, I found out that there are people who are outcasts and there are people who enjoys being superior to another. We know that people enjoys being superior because some people let themselves be inferior. The story centers on a relationship of a homeless woman and a leper, Kuala and Berto living in a society that don’t accept them.
"Maraming klaseng tao ang pinagtatawanan ang kanyang kapwa dahil may diperensya. Dahil sa mayroong hindi tama sa itsura. At karamihan sa mga tumatawag iyon ang hindi marunong tumingin sa loob, sa puso. Ang puso'y hindi nakikita ng mata para makita mo ito, Gamitin mo ang iyong puso. "said by Mario O' Hara as Berto Judging others from the way they look is what i've noticed and that has become a trend until now. We often make fun of others because they are different from us. In this movie, a village idiot, leper, a womanizer, apostolic hypocrites and a man entwined between goodness and peer pressure has showed the audience a reflection of the nation's ugliness. I, myself have realized that even up to now, we are to blame for the world's injustice. Example, instead of just blaming others with the crisis around us and give in to filthy pride, maybe we should do something instead to help out. I am also guilty for judging others. For instance, a helpless child asks for money. Instead of lecturing why they beg for money, maybe I should give out a few of what I have. I always think that giving will just help the poor become more lazy.
On a positive perspective, the good thing in this movie is that it shows the value of unconditional love. A true love that even though it cannot be reciprocated, still love persists. Berto’s love to Kuala is unconditional even though she is not able to give back love to him as she is insane. He is very caring of her and accepts her whatever she is. It is also nice that the movie also shown that friendship is possible to develop between a rich kid and poor town folks. That social status is not a hindrance for Junior to befriend Berto and Kuala.
The ending of the film says a lot of things. Junior is the only one who embrace the lives of two social outcasts whose attitude overpowers their physical and mental shortcomings and Kuala’s nightmare of the abortion turned out to be a new hope as Junior walked outside the house of Berto with the newborn baby facing all the guilty townspeople. After all the wrong things we made, it hurts to see innocence being shattered.
