Review Of The Lost Identity Casualties By Kim Ekemar
As Matthias Callaghan is recovering from his injuries that he received by a Russia mobster Yuri Petroff, Matthias starts to lose his humanity, as he plans to take his revenge against anyone who played a part in his misfortune, including his own wife and father.
What I loved about the book was how Kim Ekemar used to different point of view to tell the story. One being first person point of view, that Kim used to show Matthias’ thoughts and actions from the time he woke up in the hospital, till the end of the book where he recounts the results of his revenge. Giving the readers a more personal view, instead of using an observation view like he did for the second daring characters. Kim gave them a more narrative view so readers could watch as Matthias played on the greed and weakness of the people who had a part to play in his misfortune. Another thing I liked about the book was how Kim was able to stair up so much emotion in me, as I learned more about the character Julia Callaghan, Matthias’ second wife. Before she married the young business man, she tried to immigrate into another country illegally, and ended up being sold into human tracking. During the book she recounts the tell of her life and what happened to her during her time as a sex slave, and how she was able to reclaim her freedom. Julia’s story remained me that even though she is a fictional character, there are girls (and boys) that being tricked and sold into slavery this very day.
Though the story is well written and had great characters, there still was a few things I did not like about the book. One was the dates the author added to certain part of the story letting readers know the day and time it was, and the second was a couple of minor unanswered questions. Now I do not want to spoil the book, so I will not elaborate on the questions, I am sure Ekemar left out the answers, so they can be answered or used as a plot devised for the sequels to the book.
I rate this a 3 out of 4 stars, because it did not have enough action. I would have like there may be a car chase or a shoot-out with the Mafia and police, but there was nothing like that, just a lot of lying, scheming, and death.
