Review Of The Movie Black Panther

Marvel’s Black Panther an artistic widening sensation of a movie. With over $1 billion worldwide in sales, sparking controversy and conversation over social media, touching on a number of themes and issues we face every day in society. It could've been seen as a groundbreaking celebration in black culture. Ryan Coogler’s Marvel film has given the world a look at how the superhero characters can get political and how some of the characters are pushed to the sidelines. When T'Challa returns to Wakanda, an African nation, to take his place as king. He is faced with conflict putting the nation of Wakanda at risk. He has to use the power of the Black Panther to gain his spot rightfully.

In class we were asked to read the book and watch the movie, there were some key differences between the book and the movie. Also how the technology in the movie is similar to today’s society. Coogler is relatively faithful to the comic book, there were things that happened in the book but was not in the movie. In the book, T’Challa is younger when he takes the throne. They were 10 years apart. In the book, he was around 20 years old and in the movies, he was around 30. In the book, the character Killmonger grows up in Wakanda, but in the movie, Killmonger is not a native to Wakanda he grew up in Oakland, CA. Also, T’Challa and Nakia are lovers but the difference in the movie and the book is that Nakia is a jealous lover. But things are much more bitter in the comic. In the Wakanda, the nation is technologically ahead, but they chose to hide what they innovated to protect its people and society. There were actual connects between the world of Wakanda and the real world today. Like Shari's magnet-powered subway a high-speed magnetic rail system that runs all around Wakanda. The remote piloting where she was able to control from one location, like drive a car or fly a plane. Realistically as if you were in one with the actual controls. Holograms are seen throughout scenes in the movie. It’s like the face time we have in today's society. Unfortunately, all of the technology seen in this movie is so far away from being developed but we have the similar thing just Less impressive.

I don’t think I could live in a monarchy society where one person was practically in control of my life, superior of me, pretty much being subject to no rights. I would be living under one. I wouldn’t be able to do it. In another country, the power comes from one person. Here we would elect someone to do someone like a queen’s job. Donald Trump, He does things like signs off on bills. We live simple lives and under a monarchy, I would like to keep it that way.

Black Panther was a defining moment for African Americans in the United States. It was written by a black writer, director, and majority black characters. It’s a very compelling movie that had a huge impact on the nation. There was a lot of hype from the movie. It didn't disappoint.
