Review Of The Movie Forrest Gump

The movie I will be reviewing is Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis. Forrest Gump, the movie is based on the novel with the same name by Winston Groom. It tells the life story of a man who was born with the intellect below average and still managed to achieve much in his life. The story depicts several decades in the life of its protagonist, Forrest Gump who is played by Tom Hanks. He is a kind-hearted and good-natured. Gump witnesses, and in some cases influences, some of the defining events of the end of the 20th century in the United States, specifically the period between his birth in 1944 and 1982. Forrest Gump's genre can be described as comedy, drama and even romance.

The movie is told in the first person's point of view. Gump himself narrates the story through his life growing up. On his first day on the school bus, a little girl named Jenny is the only child who allows Gump to sit next to her. One day when he is being chased by bullies, his braces fall off, and he discovers that he can run swiftly. This ability gets him onto the football team in school and earns him a scholarship to the University of Alabama in sport. Gump later joins the Army and is sent to Vietnam. He becomes close to fellow recruit Bubba Blue who persuades Gump that they will operate a shrimp boat together when they have been released from service. After Forrest returns home to Alabama he is reunited his life-long friend Jenny in hop of pursuing a relationship with her. While all this is happening, Gump is involved in very important and iconic events that happened in American history at that time.

In my opinion I believe there is a few different morals in Forrest Gump. I think there is a huge concept of love and Forrest has a lot of love for both his mother and Jenny. I also think that there is a point no to take life too seriously as Forrest drifted through life if you will, yet he still done many great things, whereas Jenny strived to do great things and not everything always worked out for her. The character Forrest Gump can be simply described as a nice guy. He is an accidental hero when he returns from Vietnam with the Army and also an accidental athlete. Gump is a kind-hearted character who would do anything for anyone. Jenny is also vital to the movie and Gump's character as Jenny is his love interest. Later in life Jenny can be described as a hippie, even a stoner. But nonetheless, Forrest will never stop loving her. Lt. Dan Taylor is also a very important person to Forrest as he befriends him while in Vietnam. m.

Forrest develops a string relationship him even though he can be quiet hostile towards him. In my opinion, I love all the characters as I feel they all bring something very important to the film. Even though Lt. Dan was short with Gump it was beneficial to him as Gump learned a lot from him. The setting of this movie is quite versatile as it follows Gump through his life during 1944-1982. The scenes can go from America, Vietnam to China. With each location a very different story is told and brings different emotions with it. There are very good special effects in this movie such as Lt. Dan's missing leg. With the aid of a greenscreen the effect of Lt Dan's missing leg after Vietnam was achieved. CGI effects were also used to make it look like Gump was shaking hands with people who were actually deceased. In conclusion, I would recommend anyone who has yet to see this film to watch it as it has something that every audience would love. The film is overall very comical and by following the life of Forrest Gumps makes for a great storyline.
