Review Of The Novel A Little Lost A Little Found By H. M. Irwing
H. M. Irwing’s novel, A Little Lost A Little Found, is a contemporary romance novel that focuses on the relationships between three main characters and offers up readers tons of steamy romance. This is my second review on one of Irwing’s novels and I have not been disappointed. The main character, Lucy Little, was born a twin, but sadly her twin, Blaise Starr, was kidnapped at birth by her mother’s jealous sister. Lucy is the daughter of famous singer, Knyte Starr, and Mary Little. In the novel, Lucy grapples with her feelings for her best friend Jace Neil and faces constant bullying for her dark skin color, courtesy of her father’s heritage. Lucy is caught between Jace and another man, Richard Reeves, who is a playboy businessman out to seduce and win her feelings. Jace’s family business is in trouble and his father wishes to match him with Richard’s sister, Celine, to pay up a debt that the Neil family owes to Richard. Jace is caught between his feelings for Lucy and the desire to save his family’s company. My understanding is that this is the first book in an ongoing series. I’ve noticed that a main theme throughout Irwing’s novels is the fact that her characters overcome adversity and hardship.
The author’s characters, however, find love and acceptance in the end. In this novel, her main character Lucy Little, or Luxy Ara Starr, is a strong woman who is caught between two very charismatic men. She is also dealing with the fact that her twin has been missing all her life so she feels like there is a part of herself that is also missing. I liked the relationship between Lucy and her two younger sisters, Emily and Cat. They are very affectionate with each other and all three have a strong bond. Lucy is described as a tomboy who is very athletic. She is unlike her siblings in temperament and looks. She feels a noticeable distance, even with how close they all are. Lucy feels that it is her duty to protect her twin sisters because she does not want to lose another sibling. Lucy’s relationship with her step-father Patrick Little is sweet and affectionate. Jace is the typical replica of a Paul Walker type- blond, blue-eyed, and ripped. Lucy’s had feelings for him for two years, yet she’s hesitant to act on them. There is a constant underlying sexual tension between the two throughout the novel. Richard is a childhood friend of theirs and is the typical playboy millionaire. Richard is bold, charismatic, and very high-handed. Jace and Richard are close friends, and as both have feelings for Lucy, the tensions are high throughout the novel between the three of them. Lucy is drawn to Richards hidden depths of passion and she starts to become conflicted about her feelings for Jace. Richard feels that Jace is not right for Lucy and states that he had a claim on Lucy when she first turned sixteen. There is a bit of an age difference between Lucy and Richard as he is nine years older than her. Most of the novel deals with the relationship between Lucy and Jace. However, we start to see a budding attraction between Lucy and Richard. Lucy debates on whether to see her biological father in America, as she discovers more information about her twin brother. The author is very descriptive and her choice of words enhances the feeling that the reader is right there in the setting.
There are several grammatical errors, yet I was still able to follow the story. I am giving this 3 out of 4 stars. Overall, the story was enjoyable and the tension between all three characters was exciting. There were several grammatical errors and I felt that the ending could have been more polished. I recommend this to romance readers and I want to emphasize that this has sexual content. This novel is for more mature readers. I am curious to know how Irwing will continue Lucy’s story in the next novel, as the story ends on a major cliff hanger. I think we’ll finally get to read about Lucy’s lost twin brother in the next novel.
