Review Of Why I Fight By J. Adams Oaks
The plot of the story Why I Fight is traditional because it has a sequence of events in which affect through the principal of cause and effect. The plot of the story is about a twelve year old boy named Wyatt Reaves who is left home alone day by day. Wyatt burns his house down and then in which his uncle Spade takes him away to safety, but uncle Spade sees Wyatt basically as a money making machine from bare fist fighting. Uncle Spade and Wyatt use the money and Spade’s girlfriends as a living and Wyatt tries to figure out who he is and isn’t. The beginning of the story really wasn’t grabbed my attention.
The ending of the book is satisfying as Whyatt reconnects with his dad and mom. Wyatt at the beginning of the book is scrawny, skinny, optimistic, and has dark hair. By the end of the book Wyatt is Buff, he’s very short tempered, and isn’t really intelligent. One of Wyatts problems he’s facing is that he wants to reconnect with his family but at the same time doesn’t want to go back. Uncle Spade hasn’t changed the entire book really, he is a gray haired, greedy, has a five-o’clock shadow, and he’s middle aged. I feel like the characters are more round then dimensional. The other does an okay job at characterizing them, because he fully doesn’t characterize, he barely does. The writing pace of the book to me was not that fast paced, it was actually kinda mild. It’s an easy book to keep along with. The writer uses day to day words not really anything unordinary or out of the blue. The sentences to me are well crafted and are memorable. The setting of the story changes multiple time from Wyatt's house, The homeless shelter, grandma's house, Spade’s girlfriends house’s, the motel, and at his parents apartment. The setting and how it is always changing is mostly the most important aspect of the entire book. The settings throughout the book are described well. The theme of the book is that you don’t need anyone for when you have to fight for the things you want.
Another theme of the book is how when you grow up you got to learn to change from a boy to a man. The book characteristics is based of off of a genre young adult, because without Wyatt’s mom and dad, Spade and Wyatt himself are trying to turn him into a young adult throughout the book. I loved this book, it is now one of my favorite books. Because it is basically trying to tell you when you want something sometimes you have to fight for it, and that you don’t need anyone. The good of the book is how Wyatt is learning to become strong and to become a man. What wasn’t so good is how Wyatt had really no connection with his parents and wasn’t getting any education. I recommend this book to people who are struggling to do things alone and for those who are trying to fight for what they want.
